    As per the thread title.

I don't know if its free to air,but I can certainly watch it on the sky world package.

It looks excelent presentation wise with scrolling news in English at the bottom.

I have only just put it on so I don't know what its going to be like editorially but I'm expecting it to be like its main channel of course ie the polar opposite of fox news :D

I wonder what chance of NTL/UPS adding it to the digital package.

    Mike.

    dunno.

They've nicked a few presenters from CNN and Sky,I see.
    It's very very slick.

And the main presenter at the moment of the 7pm news, used be an anchor on the BBC 9 o'clock news.
I cant remember his name,he's [STRIKE]a Black man [/STRIKE] African English.

Interesting to see what this amounts to in the end and if it'll be in any way a reputable source of news in general terms.
the station got plenty of kudos for its coverage over the last few years, mainly since everyone noticed it post 11th September 2001... the US administration seems to think it's both a great outlet to speak directly to the people of the ME and a turrurrist voice-box.

They know about slick out there in Doha, with the oil 'n all. :D

But yes, very professional looking. It might not be a channel for breaking news, but one thing that it has got today that no other western news channels has, is access to Zimbabwe. I hope they report well there, I saw a glimpse of a report there earlier (tail end, so couldn't comment on the piece), I think its valuable to have any reporters in a country like that.

This channel could be very real competition for BBC and CNN. CNN have pioneered multi-city broadcasting (broadcasting centres in Hong Kong, London, New York and, of course, Atlanta, GA!), which makes Sky News and BBC World look a little bit... dare I say.. cheap when its only based in London, now Al Jazeera has Doha, Kuala Lumpur, London and Washington, DC as its hubs.

Tristrame, unplug that Sky sub card and see if its FTA! :D

Anyone know what channel it is on NTL digital?

Havent seen it as yet but hope they are successful, we need alternatives to the others, Sky, Fox, CNN etc.

I hope this will be a reliable source for the latest news in relation to the Middle East. Some of the channels on Sky already can be incredibly biased at times.

Just saw an ad for their 'listening post' show, which looks through different media on tv, radio, online etc.
At one point they say 'we look what the media are saying, from the biggest networks to the most obscure blogs' or something along those lines, and a list of channel names like CNN, FOX etc. shows up... and I could have sworn I saw TG4...??

edit: I'm now certain I saw TG4... can't take a screen grab from realplayer though (never works for some reason)

***cough*** Rupert Murdoch ***cough***, on a side note this also explains why most channels on Sky Digital pitch to the lowest common denominator. i.e. reality tv

Wouldn't Al Jazeera just be biased in the other direction?

At least we get both sides... just not from the same channel, lol

I wouldn't expect this to be on NTL any time soon. There might be a chance of it appearing on cable in the UK, but I doubt it somehow appearing on cable in Ireland.

I think there's an Italian or Spanish news channel called TG4 so it could of been that.

omigod did anyone see abcnews last night, they absolutly slaughtered it, they gave it no credit at all, said 'some people' call it osamatv, and it shows civilian casulties and they did say it be the first network to show non-western arab side but then the showed the former abc anchorman now on Al J and he said it would good place to know your enemy!!!

then the showed rumsfeld declaring it bin lande personal proganada channel...

katie couric slammed it the it deserves

And they also had several LVOs on Ireland's 5-0 win last night. Hopefully they'll keep up the coverage of Irish events!

Very good presentation wise. Let's hope they have journalism to match, what with some commendable names on their list. At the moment, I'm a little bit sceptical, but very optimistic. We'll wait and see.

Watch the opening six minutes of Al-Jazeera English, as the channel opens with breaking news of the then-expected tsunami heading towards Japan. (link)

TG1 is the branded news on the national PSB, RAI of Italy. That is shown on RAI UNO, it really stands for Telegiornale Uno.

RAI has 3 channels, all have news bulletins, called TG2 and TG3.

I saw that flick-through of channel names mentioned, so it is possible that it could have been an optical illusion that made it look like TG4, but I'd like to see it again. :)

The Times mentioned today that NTL are looking to get the channel but it won't be part of their basic package

that intro oh my god the armageddan is coming!!

see the report in the times saying how bland it was, I thought the disappointment there no osama-tape was trite.

why didn't they explain their history in the arab world, that they've ruffled as many feather there rather then going on about being bombed by the US?

Is there a guy with them he used to work for UTV? Looks like him.

If Sky news were bombed by the US wouldnt they be talking about it.

I taped that ad the other night without realising. It says TG1, and is indeed followed by TG4. Probably isn't the Irish one though.

I watched Al Jazeera the other night and I was pretty impressed.

I like the range of foreign news and the quality of the presenters. Also looking forward to watching David Frost's show tonight to see what the interviews are like...

I suggest that it gives a little balance Vs Fox News, watch both & make your own mind up, the truth will be probably somewhere in the middle.....;)

Your review in a word childish. Frost was the man who got nixon to admit guilt. Never mind doing "that was the week that was" at the age of 26. He's challenged Blair about praying with Bush, he's a tower in intellectual debate, hes got guil and and poise, and a disarming ability with guests. Claiming frost is a sycophant is putting him in the bush leagues with Pat Kenny, when he's a 40 year professional with an amazing gift to catch is subject at their most vunerable...

I have pointed out his failings previously here, so for your benefit, I shall expand on that.

I admire him with regard to TV. TW3, and then LWT and its high-brow start-up, only to crash and burn when market reality set in, and for TV-am, only to crash and burn when mar.... He had very well meaning aspirations, but had to settle for what came about.

A remarkable TV legend, but not the best political interviewer. To me, he really got sycophantic on his Sunday morning show on TV-am and BBC1. Thatcher cuddled him. To me, it showed he was winding down over the past few years. He hasn't done an engaging interview (a la Nixon) for years. As for Tony B. Liar there the other night, I think that was more a slip by the interviewee than the guile of the interviewer.

This is also the man that hosted "Through The Keyhole".
But I will thank him for shafting Simon Dee. :D

And don't forget his years doing comedy! The Frost Report was a leg up for shows like the Two Ronnies, The Goodies and Monty Python.

Still haven't had a chance to see the channel yet. :( Going to have to find a way to give it a shot.
