Recommend me a DVD/surround system?

    I've never had one and decided I should take the plunge. I don't watch very many DVD's but as I work with pro-audio I do have a good set of ears so I'm thinking I might get the best value finding something cheap but solid on eBay. Any classic or particularlly good units out there? Any pointers on what specs and features I should look for or avoid?

    If you are looking for audio quality, stay away from the generic Home Theatre in a Box solutions. Nowt wrong with them per se but you can get better sound from a "proper" system.

    After that, you spend what you like, so perhaps if you give a budget, that might define more what you can get and where you should look.

    I've been checking out the 2.1 Samsung system (have a thread about it below). Looks nice and sounds nice.

    They also do a 5.1 system that gets good reviews plus both have HDMI

    Looks pretty good to me, I have the yamaha surround sound amp and speakers but this sony also has HDMI...for a good price
