Exactly what it says on the tin.

Lock up your daughters and morals, we're back in black and taking no prisoners.

Look out for issues around College this week.

    will It be available online?

Us boards types aren't actually real people. We are, in fact, a super-race of cyber-men (and the occasional cyber-Hilary), and thus can only access things on the interwebby.

Piranha, the magazine not the user, can go fo because it's not funny. If i wanted to read some badly written, abusive piece of trash I'd go into the toilets in AanP and read the walls. Actually, I kinda like abusive badly written journalism to be honest. can't wait.

Great news. I'm hungry for a bit of college satire.

In fairness any student publication varies from year to year with the different people involved. Piranha is not usually to my taste either but at least give the new team a chance!

I wonder if it will end up getting banned again this year? I reckon 5/3 would be good odds.

I've heard, from the horse's mouth, so to speak, that it's designed to be funny but not controversial this year.

Then it's not Piranha. It's something else with the word piranha on the cover. Boo-urns.

I saw it. It's slick! It's been laid out really well and is in fact funny. Check out the horoscopes page, Mary Poppins and the "apology" on the back page.
Definitely well worth a good read.

Where are they? I went looking for one this morning and couldn't find any :( I did see people with them so if anyone knows where there is a pile of them could they please tell me!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,024 ✭✭✭Awayindahils

Yeah, I was in house six and theres no sign of them. Hmm might go up to PUBS and ask for one...

Didn't see any in the Hamilton, Museum Building or House 6 earlier on today. Went into the Arts [strike]Block[/strike] Building planning to go up to the couch-things upstairs to pilfer one of the few (had thought that it'd have been removed since there was a lack of them). However, there was a stand in the main foyer of the Arts Block, so I just went up and asked for one.

Nice picture of Quinn in it!

We will strive to ensure that similar incidents do not occur in Piranha! again for at least a week or two.

Please do not get one of your dad's solicitor mates to write us a ridiculous letter demanding we print 'Quinn to Win' on our ass-cheeks and parade around in the next Superbowl halftime show while chewing off our own testicles.

Well, never having read it before, I didn't really find it funny at all. Not in a "ooh! I was so offended!" way, just in a plain not funny way. The ivana bacik thing was kinda funny, and I laughed when I saw the celebrity death top trumps thing, because it's certainly a funny idea, but then when I read it it just didn't deliver.

Piranha is now about as controversial as wearing brown shoes with black trousers. And it's not even that amusing, either. Gone are the days of cutting satire and treading the line between acceptable and slander/libel (whatever, I can never remember). It's tame, lame and..has lost its game? (Sorry, I HAD to put something that rhymed.)

Not that impressed tbh. The Quinn introduction was quite funny, as was the "renewable babies" piece. The JD page was amusing, but seemed to require having seen that Irish Times article. To be fair, I haven't read every article in it yet (managed to misplace my copy somewhere in the GMB) but from what I did see, it doesn't have anywhere near the bite of last year. A magazine ripping the piss out of college either needs to be clever and satirical or so ridiculously offensive that you laugh as much from shock as from the humour. I nearly laughed up a lung reading the "Ask Stephanie!" column last year (I still giggle inanely every time I see the words "water-based lubricant"), but nothing this year appealed to me nearly as much. Perhaps I'm being overly harsh; it was certainly amusing, but after such a long wait, something of a let down. Boo-urns.

I thought this issue was amusing, but not necesarily funny. It's nowhere near as controversial as it used to be. Not that that would matter, if it were really funny. It seems to have taken a long time to put together so little too. Overall, I'd say about 4/10.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,510 ✭✭✭Tricity Bendix

Absolutely lousy. Quinn intro was rubbish (shay could do a far better salute to our leader, methinks), burning babies was an entirely predicable way of trying to shock, and who cares how many films some actor has been in?

    Not funny in the slightest.

I sniggered at the Bacik thing, but beyond the initial 'babies want Ivana dead' line, there was nothing new to feep the piece funny. It was just a drawn out and elaborated version of that one line.

Shay likes not being banned, so maybe not.

I actually found that piece amusing - I only read it this morning, which is why I didn't include it in last night's post.
