    Hey Guys,

    Im just wondering, i am going to be buying a second hand laptop really soon and am looking for some advice. Mainly;

    What is the best way to check if the PC is runnin smoothly?

    Is there some program that you can run on the PC which will test all of its components and give results of how well its performing?

    What would be the main things to check for?

    Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

    Could run directx diagnostics
    Go to start > run > type in "dxdiag" enter

    Maybe bring a dvd and see if it plays souns and video smoothly, if there's dvd software on the laptop

    If you have a detailed pdf/word/jpg files, something with lot's of graphics in it, seeing how smoothly it renders the file compared to other machines you use might give you some indication of speed

    Spec - check what CPU/memory/Hard-drive it has (right-click on My Computer)

    Battery - how long does the battery charge last. This is probably the biggest area for concern on a second hand laptop. Don't take the seller's word for it, check yourself :)

    As for the system running well/not well, that can easily be fixed by either removing all the crap that comes with it, or by doing a re-format/install.

    Check if Windows CD comes with it.
