Help with the basics

I've been taking pictures for a few years now and while I'm happy with the results and the quality of most of my pictures I still haven't studied the basics behind photography like aperture settings and light balance etc. I'm sure if I had a better understanding of these terms then I would be able to take better pictures.

Can anyone suggest a good, resonably priced book to start me off. I'm currently using a Fuji Finepix S5000 and have done since Summer 2004.

    Any help is much appreciated.

I can suggest two; "Learning to See Creatively" and "Understanding Exposure". Both by Bryan Peterson. Best to get them online I'd say.
