Calling Golfers In Cork

    Hello,

I'm a Dub who moved back to Ireland in August after many years away and am now based in Cork city (controversial, I know).

I'm a keen golfer (hcp 19) but am reticent to join a club down here until I know which one would suit me best as the joining fees are unreal. In the meantime I would like to meet others for the odd weekend game at various clubs around the city and county.

Is there a group out there who does this already ? Any suggestions ?

    Thanks

Just an idea for you to think about. I know there of a number of Cork residents who joined Dungarvan in Co. Waterford. It takes them about 45 mins to drive from Cork. Dungarvan Golf Club was offering €0 initiation fee with about €650 yearly dues. Not sure if the offer is still open. I think they also have country membership for about half the yearly dues of a full membership.

Thanks Diego. I had a look at Dungarvan's website and it would appear that the offer you talk about is still valid. Cheers.

As far as i know Slievenamon in Tipperary do distance membership for 150 Euro. You can play 3 cards there and get a handicap. You could then pay green fees in courses around Cork, it could be a good way of getting a handicap..etc without paying big bucks! Or play in open events which would be a cheaper price than green fees
