    Go into safe mode:
As your computer starts but before Windows launches, press F8.
Use the arrow keys to highlight the safe mode option, and then press ENTER.
    When it boots
Then start > Control panel > Add remove programs and uninstall all elements of Norton and the world will be a better place. :)

If god forbid Norton's own installer is broken as the program is a pain in the ass to remove, Symantec offer an un-installer of their own though it has varying degrees of success.

Select the "Uninstall Norton AntiVirus using the SymNRT removal utility" this must be done through Internet Explorer as well.

There are also some manual removal instructions at this link.

The formally Dell now PC De-Crapifier also supports various Norton products.

Still no luck. Pressing F8 does nothing at all!

I've deleted the shortcit from my programs menu so no hope there...

You know you supposed to press F8 just before the windows splash screen appears. as in turn PC on, usually followed by a beep depending on your hardware. Then whack F8 until the menu appears.

if all else fail open your Start>run and type 'msconfig'. Move to the 'BOOT.ini' tab and check the /safeboot box. Reboot the machine.

Personally i've never done it that way so when you go to restart it may bring you into safe mode again. Unchecking the /safeboot box should set it back to the norm.
