Anybody got the initiative to run a gamefair?

To the best of my knowledge the national country fair in Emo is not on this June. This means there is no gamefair in the republic of Ireland in 2007. Opportunity arises, who will fill the gap?
Somebody out there has the management skills to run a good gamefair.

The company running it for the last few years went bankrupt. It doesn't seem to have been a profitable event - I was working at this event for the last few years, seemed to be a lot more stress there this year.

There are game fairs all over Europe. It has to be possible to run a successful game fair here. How do they do it in the North? How come some shops close and some shops make good money? Its not rocket science, the only thing that is rocket science is rocket science.

I mean if you have consistantly around 40000 people going to an event and a good lot of stands, one must know how much a show costs to run and how much money they need to take in to make it a success.

Insurance is going to be the biggest killers on this.It killed it off in Birr,co Offaly as admitted by Lord whatisname who owns Birr demense. It is more than likely what will have done in Emo,along with hiring out that huge estate.I always found that Emo was like ten people in an aircraft hanger trying to make themselves look like 600.Trouble is i think they were not getting enough stands into the fair, and were gypping people with their outrageous admission prices and car parking charges. For all the stands they had they could all have been fitted into the Punchestown centre and still had room to spare.Plus run the clay shooting outside and the other events.Plus one other thing has to play well to get crowds in is the weather.Nor do you want to get into the place ,but which comes here is the kn"£$er element.
It was this that finall y destroyed it in Adare, you could see it becoming less and less desireable each year while the undesireables took it over more and more.untill they had a massive faction fight in the playground, over which clan had the right to run the swings and roundabouts. All in all that finished it for Adare.
It is not the most easiest thing to run in Ireland.I would prefer somthing small and local that survives every year and doesnt have pretensions, than somthing massive and dies off after two years thru bankrupcy.

Yes there is an exhibiton in swords this year in Feb. It has been run as angling Ireland for the last few years and this year it will run with hunting exhibitors also.

Just an idea but would it integrate well with the ploughing championship? A lot of people go to that each year, it'd show people not yet involved what's on offer and be a good place to do some good PR. I'd imagine there'd be quite a bit of sympathy from the majority of visitors to it as they'd be from an agricultural background, although not all cos all sorts do go!

The Welsh game fair is well worth going to once.

Very easy to get to - mainly for doggy men - but there is the odd few gun stands.
I went over and came back the same day - no problem at all.

You could check out Keens in Aberkenfig in the morning as well - that's got some decent gear. It a bit further along the motor way but possible to do it all in the one day.
