    Folks,
Anyone know how to make a shiny new leather jacket appear old and frayed?

Got a black leather jacket a couple of years ago, never really wore it because it's too shiny... how do I give it the rought worn look?

I thought about putting in the washing machine.. anyone ever tried this?

    Any experience, ideas?

    Cheers,
    LP.

I'd recommend sitting on it. Watching a movie? Scrunch up your jacket, and sit on it for a couple of hours. I wouldn't put it in a washing machine though.

You could also wear it untill it becomes worn. Just a thought. ;)

Well balling it up and sitting on it for extended periods of time will get it worn quite fast.

yeah I suppose I could put it under the mattress or something too.
Anything more radical and speedier than that?

There's lots of things you can do that's more radical and speedier, but they might just end up ruining your jacket completely. I mean, you could get a light grain sandpaper, and scratch it up a bit, that'll give it a very worn texture, but you'd need to be careful.

Put it on and roll down several hills.

washing machine should do the trick... :D

depends on the leather though - sheep will get nice worn look quickly, cow (or whatever it is) will take a lot longer...

I wouldn't put leather in a washing machine tbh, not good for it at all. It could end up very stiff and cracked.

i would disconnect the water to the washing machine, stick in a pair of mucky runners, some gravel and maybe even a few rocks. pop the whole lot of this inside a pillowcase(just so it doesn't get into your washing machine) and sure you might as well stick in some scraps of sandpaper too and turn that baby on!

if all else fails then maybe sit on it for a while:rolleyes:
