This two-hour tech evening event will cut right to heart of what you need to know about all these new products:

    • Learn about Windows Vista, Microsoft Office 2007 and Exchange Server 2007 from our technical keynote speakers
    • Chat to the experts and get your questions answered
    • Have a look at the new features and get your hands on the products themselves to try them out
    • Best of all, each attendee will receive a full, free license for Widows Vista Home Edition, along with other evaluation software

There is already a link in OS/windows forum but as not everyone would read that I will post it here aswell http://wwww.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055013759

    Quick question,
Why would that be deemed "selling your soul"?

My laptop is by no means super and it was okay with the beta. Might head on down to this though. As I said in the OS thread I may be able to swing a half day for it.

I hate the home versions of their software ...wait for the pro-version..
Although a free copy is rather nice ..I'd get it if I wasn't on my holidays.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,893 ✭✭✭j4vier

u have to be emplyed in it to go there dont u? im only a student :(
when i tried to register it asked all sort of q about what company do i work for and they were all mandatory fields

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,929 ✭✭✭dubmick

just use a random company name, I doubt you'll be quizzed

does a free license mean you actually get a cd with the operating system on it?

    I'd guess so.

Might be worthwhile if you just bought a new machine with XP on it and you want all the multimedia stuff in Vista. I assume once launched new PCs will have the Home Edition as standard anyway.

excellent, see you guys at 6....

    Thanks OP

Dell are already offering Vista as a free upgrade when it launches.

[FONT=Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif]Yes, I couldn't believe my eyes either. Microsoft are giving away software for free!

I'm on the Microsoft Technet Ireland mailing list, and got this email (see quote below)

To get the free licence, you have to go to the event. To go to the event, you must register. To register, you have to join Technet (free). To join Technet, you have to have a .net passport.

A bit messy I know, but FREE VISTA! Crikey.

    See you all there lads!

It's a nice venue actually. My job organised a conference there only 2 weeks ago.

I registered for this no problem yesterday other than how utterly slow the Microsoft website was.

I signed up for the waiting list for the 8pm one.
I got a link to print a ticket I am to use when I show up.

Does that mean I'm off the waitlist and can go?
Handy for me as I live across the road from Croke Park.

Yeah, I did the same thing. It said that I'd be on the waiting list, but then said for me to print off the page and turn up. So I suppose I'll be doing that then..

    Premium

What we have yet to ascertain is whether it's an upgrade license (like Dell and other OEMs are offering) or a new install. Important to note too that it's just a license. It won't actually be usable till next year. And it'll probably be an upgrade license. An article here on Vista coupons.

From my intrepretation, it seems as though they'll be giving us the discs too. And since technet is meant to be for IT professionals who will want to play around with how Vista works in their job, they'll hardly force us to buy an additional licence elsewhere.

Seems to me like we get a full version of Vista, with CD and licence, plus other evaluation software (likely to be Office 2007 eval, since the event is for the launch of it too).

Free stuff is free stuff, upgrade or full edition, coming with the media or not. I'm a happy chappy one way or another.
