    Hi Folks,
I'm looking to go for either of the following lens:

Sigma APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG HSM
    Nikon 80-200mm f2.8 D ED AF Zoom

Has anybody used either of these or can anybody advise which to go for?

    Cheers,
    S.

    I've played with the Sigma.

And by play, I mean dragged it like a brick around waterford for 15 mins, before gladfully giving it back to the owner.

It's a great lens and all, but horribly heavy.

I have the Sigma, non DG version, and it's a very good lens.It compares favorably with the canon version, although not as fast and silent but half the price. I've never used Nikon so can't compare.

Just checked Acfoto and the sigma is half the price of the Nikon also.

A mate of mine (pro sports snapper) just dropped eight grand on Nikon gear in the States, I'd go with the Nikon on his recommendation. I'd go with the Nikon anyway to be honest. I have a thing for labels :)

I've used the Nikkor it's excellent.
(aperture not changing as you zoom was a great novelty to me !)

Thought it was very sharp even at 2.8

I found it heavy,I wouldn't like to have to take it on a days walking trip.

Just say NO to off brand lenses :)

I've been doing a bit of googling (and oogling) of zoom nikors.
its not on your list, and its more expensive (of course it would be)
but the 70-200 f2.8 vr is the cream of nikon telephoto, from the reviews I've read. The nikon 80-200 f2.8 doesnt come too far behind it.

I'd go for the 80-200 nikon over the sigma though if that were the choice.

THe VR is a beauty of a lens, but too pricey for my (lack of) budget.

I have the Sigma and cant say enough good things about it. Check this weeks Amateur Photographer for a review of Sigma 70-200 f2.8 EX DG Macro HSM and Nikkor 70-200 f2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR. Great review of both
