IBM Thinkpad Issue

I have an IBM Thinkpad A21m which has been rock solid for me for the past 3 years or so since I got it. I had been using it less frequently over the past year since I installed a desktop machine at home. A few weeks ago I tried simply powering it on and noticed it no longer powers up.

Basically all that happens when the power button is pressed is the little indicator light which symbolises the Hard Disk Drive briefly flashes green and that is it. No partial bootup or anything.

I was wondering if anyone out there with a Thinkpad has had a similar problem and might know of what is causing the issue/fix. I have tried the following to date to no avail:

removed hard disk drive and tried powering up
removed the battery pack and tried powering up using mains adapter only
removed mains adapter and tried powering up using battery only
removed internal NIC and tried powering up
disconnected and reconnected the CMOS battery in order to reset the BIOS

can anyone help me out here or has my Thinkpad turned into a doorstop?

    cheers,
    jAH

The A21 is fairly auld. It woulnt do any hard to strip it and reseat all the parts, CPU, Cooling Assy, PMU etc etc. Over time they can drift apart and create this kind of issue.

Before you do this, remove power, battery, RAM, HD, CMOS Battery, LAN\WLAN etc etc and leave overnight.

Boot up from power like this and see if you get any beeps.

aye the A21 is a bit old alright but it was still motorin away fine until recently.

thank you for the suggestions, I will try remove the parts you mention and leave overnight before booting and see what happens.

They are a "study old rothar" as thay say. Most of the time it just needs to be reseated. If not then the logic board is probably dead. Happens somtimes, but luckily not that often
