    Im just wondering has anyone been to Australia recently? Im thinking of heading over next summer and aren't fully sure of how long. What im wondering about is are there any places where ya can get single tickets that dont cost over €1000? Not looking for accomodation or anything like that either as I have relatives already there. Also, what other places could I check out other than Qantas.com and other australian airline websites. Am looking to go around July so should I wait a bit and then look at prices again or what?

    Why would you visit an Australian airline site (other than Qantas) ???

    To answer your question: probably. Go speak to a travel agent.

    Ok, Iv been looking around more so now, and have found one-way flights for €600:D. Its with Gulf Air and am just wondering are they any good or is there anything that could prevent me going with them? Also, the first part of the flight is Dublin to Bahrain with an hour stopover, so is that just nuts going 10 hours then 12 hours with only an hour gap? Its long-haul and I dont want anything to bad cos Id be on my own

    €600 sounds good for a one way flight. In the other thread I posted a link to ebookers.ie they came back with a price of about €650 including taxes and charges.

    1hr stop over isn't enough to cover for delays.

    I went to Sydney last year.
    Aerlingus: Dublin -> Amsterdam
    Singapore Airlines: Amsterdam -> Singapore
    Singapore Airline: Singapore -> Sydney

    I couldn't fault SA, service was amazing.In flight entertainment was excellent, ability to pause/rewind/fast forward all movies. Food was decent as airline food goes. Every couple of hrs drinks were on offer, no need to ask.

    I had a 1.5-2hr stop over in Amsterdam, could have done with more time. Plane was late touching down and I made it to the gate just before people started to board.

    In Singapore I had about a 3hr stop over. Was needed to catch up on a bit of sleep and freshen up after the long flight before I left for Sydney.

    Will never do a long haul flight like that again in one trip. From the time I left my house until I got to Sydney I was travelling for 33hrs :eek: Not good.

    God yeah...in 2001 I left Cairns and arrived into Shannon 42 hours later. Twas hell.

    Doing it again this Xmas. Straight to Sydney but stopping for a couple of nights on way back.

    Rabies, that ebookers.ie site is really good, thanks for that one. That one hour stop over is the only thing I was thinking of in relation to delays etc. Sure I'll keep a look out anyway and thanks again for that site

    should also check out www.usit.ie for prices. Although we got our flights ( off in 3 weeks !!!!! ) through the travel agent at a better price than i could get online, they get better deals and have more access with regard to connecting flights etc, online is fine for say shannon-london, but once you get into the land of long haul, best leave it to the experts....imo of course ! :D

    Musy, still give your local travel agent a visit. They were able to beat the price that ebookers gave me for my NZ flight by E300 :D

    I looked at the same flight and thought it was too long. You can get better, try an agency.

    Ended up booking a flight through australianholidays.ie (am I allowed to post a link?). They double charged me on my credit card though and denied it! (be wary of this, had to call my Aussie bank to fix it up)

    My flight was €650 (one way Dublin -> Sydney) stopping over in Dubai (4 hours) and then again for refuelling in Bangkok. Aer Lingus and Emirates are the airlines.

    I wouldn't bother with overnight stop overs if possible. Just try to get as little stop overs as possible and you will get there sooner and can rest up then.

    One time I had an 11 stop over in Seoul which was during the day and the boredom killed me. To me the less stop overs the better. I'd rather be in the plane being bored and moving closer to the destination than in some dirty airport anyday. :D

    I hope my transit in Dubai will be ok. Anyone been there before? I have only read very bad things about the airport there but I assumed only people who had a bad time would bother writing the reviews.

    Id recommend usit aswell, my girlfriend got flights with singapore airlines (amazing) for 590 euros, but they were booked 2 months before we left, so id say thats why they were so cheap. stop over in amsterdam and singapore, both for about 2 hrs which was perfect, get valium for the longer parts of flights, makes it much easier.....

    :eek: Will a doctor here prescribe valium for a flight? Never heard of that before. I was told to even bring Nurofen Plus (codeine) into UAE I need a letter from my doctor stating that I need it and how much.

    €590 is pretty cheap, I only booked my ticket last week and I am leaving on the 30th of November.

    Im not bothering to stop on the way as I want to get there as quick as possible and, like you, want to spend as much time down there.

    Tis up to yourself really. I didnt find the trip down as bad as the return. Prob more excited going down and wrecked from a couple of weeks on the beer coming back. :D
