URGENT: Money to Cuba

Posting this here because of the wider readership and the urgency of the problem.

Someone i know is currently stuck in Cuba without any money. They brought some cash and their credit card. But, because the credit card is issued through a US bank (MBNA), they can't use it.

Calls to the Cuban consulate, Irish and British embassies have been no use, and the best any bank can do is 6 days.

Does anyone know a way of getting money to Cuba quicker than this (i.e. within 24 hours)?

Know it is a long shot.

Is there any bank in Cuba that is affiliated with a US or UK bank?
Is this person american? Just asking because of the american credit card.

If they have a non US-issued Amex, they might want to try customer service. They have very prompt response to customer emergencies. Perhaps traveller's cheques could be sent, drawn on the card?

No, he's Irish. MBNA issue credit cards here. HSBC are the only bank, but it takes 6 days to get money there.

Does he not have an Irish ATM card? Does it take long for cash lodgment to get processed?

Bank of Ireland ATM cards don't work over there - just for future reference for anyone thinking of going to Cuba.

Not wanting to sound smart, but did the person not know in advance what the situation was in Cuba?
