    Can you mix biodesiel with petro desiel? That is will the car still run. I'm buying desiel next and would like to use bio but what happens if I run to low to make it home an refill?

    I'm pretty sure you can't - normal diesel causes the bio-diesel to separate and it will clog the system.

    Let us know what you find out.

    Biodiesel can be used as a pure fuel or blended with petroleum in any ratio.

    From: http://www.ntr.ie/downloads/Bioenergy-Explained.pdf. So it would seem that some blending is allowed. I'm going to investigate further. Really what I want to know initially is:
    • What's the story with running on 100% bio?
    • Blending: Can I fill up at the petrol station if I haven't enough fuel to get home?
    • What's the public availablity of bio in Ireland?
    I report back when I find anything.

    Also could you add to your list what type of engines will take the bi diesel?

    I've seen the mythbusters episode where they used a mercedes which was quite old. But i don't know how good it would be for more modern diesels to just stick in bio diesel and fire her up.

    <edit>
    Maybe i should have read your pdf document before posting....
    </edit>

    I'll be interested to see what the availability is and costs of running bio diesel....

    No story with running on 100% bio, your car might need a few fuel filter changes the first few weeks though as the bio reportedly cleans a lot of rubbish out of the tank and lines which can initially lead to blockages.

    Yes, no issues that I've heard of with blending.

    Dont know what availability is like, you could always make your own though.

    Check out the Biodiesel yahoo group for expert information.

    The older diesel engines will handle bio diesel alot better than the modern jobs for some reason.Common rail diesels are NOT recommended to be used with Bio diesel.Or any diesel engine with a LUCAS/CAV injector pump.
    i have an old Mercedes 300D G wagon.It will run on diesel pure,50/50 bio/dino diesel,100 %bio diesel,without any mods.you are really only talking dual tanks,pre heaters etc,if you are going to be running pure oils,or chip fryer oils.The problem there is keeping the fuel in a liquid state rather than a viscious state.Hence the modsand fuel filter additions.
