    Hi folks,

Anyone able to recommend a reasonable RGB-CYMK converter? I know PS CS has one but I don't have PS CS and don't really want to get it purely for the sake of converting one set of files at this stage and none of my other software appears to handle it apart from one which will split out the four layers which is not what is required for delivery. I'm prepared to pay for a licence for something, but feel that 600E for a PS licence is possibly pushing it since everything else I want to do in imaging processing I already have through other software. I've already had the 30 day evaluation licence for PS so that's not really an option.

And yes, I do understand that for the best results from CYMK files specific printer profiles would be handy but it doesn't look like I'm going to get them.

    hi Calina

if it's a once off why not get the photoshop 30 day trial from the adobe website?

just out of curiossity - how did your file end up CMYK? AFAIK all digital cameras save as RGB? Or are you looking to go from RGB to CMYK? If so, are you sure you need to?

    Hi eas

I've already used the 30 day evaluation licence (hence knowing I don't really need PS for my day to day processing needs).

My file is not now CYMK - it is RGB. But I have to supply CYMK files to someone early next week and it is a once off at this point in time.

have you used the trial for CS2, the newest ps release? If so these other adobe products can also convert RGB to CMYK :

    InDesign
    Illustrator
    PageMaker

OR , If it's not confidential I'll do it for you - send me a PM

    Calina,

are you sure you want to convert files to CMYK yourself? Especially with the printer profiles... Let's start from the beggining what exactly you're trying to do? If your printing people actually asked you to convert to cmyk, and you're tottally new to the whole prepress process, I'd be very worried about the result.
