Novice Buying digital camera?

I'm in new zealand and am currently using a sony cybershot dsc-L1 camera.

The camera is fine for basic shots and party shots but not great for scenic or distance shots.

I'm looking to buy a camera with a good zoom in it, good shutter speed for moving shots, good battery power.

Also the camera needs to be able to take a sony memorystick pro as its a 2gb stick and i don't want to have to shell out for more.

Willing to spend up around 500 euro for one.

    Any suggestions

given that the camera needs to use memorysticks then you're pretty much limited to sony cameras. The Sony DSC-H5 gets very good reviews and is around €500. 7MP, a 3inch screen and a 36-432 zoom lens make for a good package.

Ye, i was having a look at those but they seem to use rechargeable batteries! they can be very unreliable.

Ok you can get a 2GB compactflash/SD/xD memory card nowdays from 20-40 euro and if your spending 500 on a camera it's nothing. Don't just look at Sony you have thousands to choose from.

What about the powershot G7 for 472Euro

    Thanx for the info.

My main problem with the near dslr cameras is that they seem to only come with rechargable batteries.

Is there any good type that uses lithium Ion batteries.
