REM Sleep?

I slept better than I can remember last night, I went to sleep at about half 2, and woke up an hour ago...

It was disorientating though. I've slept for over twelve hours before, but never felt so refreshed or instantly awake(it was the house phone ringing that did it, even though I had slept through my alarm at 12...)

What I'm wondering is, does anybody else fall asleep listening to music? I do, every night, and I leave it playing ALL night, except last night. So does listening to something while asleep possibly affect you getting REM sleep? Is that why I slept so well last night?

Anyone else experienced this? Do you sleep with music on?

I have tried it, sometimes unintentionally falling asleep while it was left on. On an occasion or two, the music was incorporated into my dream. In most cases, I have not felt as rested when sleeping to music, so just maybe my REM was disturbed? Not sure...
