Husky Wolfe Cross

This touches on a previouse thread about people who havent a notion what they get themselves in to.

I was walking my dogs last Saturday and came across a guy walking a leggy large pup, I was admiring it and asked the owner whether it was a malamute or a siberian husky, he replied "yep, its a husky" I remarked on how big the dog was and he said "its a wolf!" I asked him was it a wolf cross and he said it was. He didn't know what type of Husky was crossed, or whether it was a Wolf sire or a Wolf bitch! I got the impression he hadn't really a clue what it was, but it was a big strong pup, and this guy didn't seem to have done his research at all. I hope he nueters it!

Is there many wolf crosses knocking about? Anyone have any?

There's often ads for wolf hybrids in the paper, from what I've read they need specialist care though.

Wolf hybids?! Didn't know there was a thing :P
Husky and malamutes are the most loyal and wonderful dogs. When i get enough room, i'll look in the paper for a wolf hybrid! What kind of specialist care would they need?

Oh yes, if I would get a penny each time I hear wolfhybrid for sale, I'd be rich. It's a very common gimmick to get peeps to buy crossbred dogs :D. Very few so called Hybrids really wolfhybrids ;).

The kind of care that most people (me included) wouldn't be able to provide.

Wolf behaviour is significantly different than doggy behaviour.
A wolf will be much more aloof, distant and shy while on the other hand much more independent, harder to train and much more instinct driven than a dog.

Whereas a dog usually wants to cooperate and is only too happy to overlook a few inconsistencies as long as its easy life continues unimpeded, a wolf needs to be absolutely convinced that you are capable of making the right decisions. Every time. Consistently. One mistake and you're out ...
And your understanding of "the right decision" and that of the wolf's might not necessarily always be the same.
And in those cases he will either ignore you completly (if you're lucky) or make it very clear that HE is boss and not you.

I'd advise to stay well clear.

Whilst over in the UK a few weeks back, I saw someone with a large and very "leggy' Husky type dog that almost had German Shepherd like qualities to it's muzzle and head, in the beer garden of a pub we were in, and I had an idea it might be some kind of hybrid. But, according to the owner it was an Inuit Husky. It was a soppy, friendly old thing and was loving all the attention it was getting, so nothing like what I had first imagined.
