Blue Screen when on battery power

I have just recently purchased a HP Pavilion notebook. It runs XP Home. When running on AC power it runs perfectly but when I unplug the power, it runs on the battery for a few moments and then gives me a blue screen of death. It flashes briefly and then reboots. I do notice though that it gives different filenames when the blue screen appears. If I check the battery level in Power Options it gives what looks like a correct reading. The battery LED on the laptop does not indicate a problem either. I have restored it to its factory software settings and it is still the same. Anyone come across anything like this?

I'd call HP. Probably an issue they're aware of.
