Age restriction on airsoft guns under 1 joule?

Hi, just wondering if there is an age that you must be over to use a pellet/airsoft gun under 1 joule? Or are they just classified as "toys" which anybody can use? Also if they are toys then is there any problem with selling them?

    Thanks,
    Shane

    No there's no age limit.

They are no longer classed as firearms, so they are effectively toys or sporting goods, yes, and anybody can use them technically.

There is no legal problem with selling them AFAIK. There is a practical problem though: if you sell them to somebody who goes around shooting grannies with them, then they will end up being banned again.

There really should be an age limit or some sort of regulation anyway.

most outlets online only sell to 18+. on the side of my sniper rifle, it says
"NOT A TOY. FOR 18 YEARS AND UP" so yeah, as of right now, there's no specific legislation for the guns.(other then the 1j) so there's no actual age limit. but they're not for sale in Ireland anyway. So you HAVE to get them online.

although, im sure most kids wont have a problem using mommy and daddys credit card. so there's no real way of enforcing the 18+ thing on the websites.

I was thinking about writing a letter to someone in the DOJ to get some kinda control legislation going.

If you're thinking of contacting the DoJ, you'll need to have some sort of internal organisation done first. They'll want to speak to a representative body rather than individuals. You'll also want to spend a while thinking of reasons why they should put in controls instead of just outlawing the things (which would be far easier for them to do).

Well outlawing them would defeat the purpose of one of the changes they made to the legislation in a Bill that was drafted 2 years before the law came into place.
