New Poker Venture in Ennis, Co. Clare

With the Shannon Region (Limerick, Shannon Town and Ennis) lacking in any real poker venue I've been trying my best to get involved in a new card room in the region.

The Cue Club in Ennis has come under new ownership and I will be taking over as Poker Room Manager within the next couple of weeks. The venue has had some small scale tournaments in the past but we are now planning for it to be a much more prominant club in the mid-west, with large buy in tournaments and festivals planned for the near future. .

There will be a minimum of 8 tables. Starting with a 4 day a week tournament schedule we will hopefully expand quickly to 7 nights a week with cash games running every night which should come as welcome news for players in the region who are currently travelling as far as Cork, Killarney and Galway to play at a professionally run venue.

I'm setting up a blog with latest news on the card room, house rules, map, directions, schedule etc. and will add the link to my signature.

I'm also looking for dealers so if anyone is looking for work get in touch with me.

    regards

    Nicky.

There's a €50+5 FO there this weekend. It's self deal except for the final table though which won't happen when I take over. I have no idea how well that tournament will be run. I'll be there and I might play in it.

We still have to buy some new equipment and tables so it will be a couple of weeks before we get things up and running and we have to decide on a new name. I think there is something like over 3000sq. ft. available so it has the potential to be a great venue.

Gotta get the EPT thing going here, IMO. Anyone for Ennis Poker Theatre? Or for the extra-cheesy Vegas touch, what about Ennis Poker Tropicana? I think this new club should be named by Boards poll. Perhaps you could set up a new thread for this specific purpose and when there are 50+ suggestions, we can have a vote for the best one!

GL with the venture, Nicky. I'll be down to check it out as soon as feasible (which may not be too soon if I don't get a result in the Orient LOL).

    All the best,

    KP

Sorry it's on Sunday, I don't know what time it starts yet but I'll find out. The club is in Market place. If you know O'Connell Street in Ennis Town centre. Drive up that street and take the first right after you pass Dunnes, then about 100 yards in front of you you'll see a Bruce betting shop. The club is above that and the entrance is on the right.

Good luck with all of this, it's good for them to get someone who knows what poker is and how it should be structured. Also, don't wind up the locals too much, those Claremen can get a bit primitive at times, especially after a lash of scoops on a Saturday night after coming from Supermacs.

You know you're in a proper town when it's got a supermacs!!!

Went into my 1st Supermacs in Galway many moons ago, and it was there I met my 1st burger with bacon on it with curry chips. Love!
The cue for the disco that night was fairly long but the queue for supermacs was LONG AND HUNGRY and usually full of angry lads who didn't score in the discos so Supermacs was the last chance of scoring . The jostling for position near a table of Barna girls one night nearly ended up in a full scale war. Being a peaceful man I calmed down the mob by asking the girls who they would like to sit beside them. One of them said, 'those fellas' and pointed to our rivals.
It was then the food fight started. I can't deny it was I who threw the 1st chip but there was a hair on it and I'm an known sore loser. Believe it or not this story had a happy ending as the girl in question did not hold the majority vote and Madeline (I think) took a shine to me (left arm strong) and off we went with curry sauce in our hair into the night. Supermacs where lust storys begin.

Good luck with this Nicky. I'm sure team Killarney will come down for your first festival to rape the pool!! Mind you, the only time I played there Keith McInerney handed me my ass on a silver platter with a smile (second level!) and I proceeded to discover the town's drinking emporiums for the next several hours while waiting for the rest of them to blow up!

Yeah there's a lot of very good poker players from the area. Of course I'll have to become an honourary Clare man now too.
