    Hi ,

Is there any way to reduce the size (megabytes) of a photo without photoshop? I took a photo on my digital camera and put it on my laptop but it is too big to upload onto the website. I dont have photoshop, I just have basic windows programs.

    Thanks

I've heard that Picasa is quite good .

Just get the Windows Power Toys Resizer, it adds a right click functionality to the context menu for images and then creates the resized imaged in the same folder, piece of cake!

This might go without saying, but if you're new to resizing it's worth posting.....whatever mechanism you use to resize, be sure that the original is safe, and that the resized image is saved as a copy under a separate filename and/or directory.

It's easy to size down/make smaller using any method mentioned above, but almost impossible to size up any significant amount to retrieve the same detail as the original shot.

Overall I'd agree with sionnach.. when you get tired of looking for Picasso and tear your hair out looking for Picassa, try Picasa, it's great.

If using WINXP just right-click on the file (jpeg?) and email it to yourself. Windows offers you the choice of sending theoriginal file size or significantly reducing the file size (normally <100kb). This way you keep original but have small file size for uploading

I'd be wary of using anything that does something "automatically" like that for you without you selecting any options. I'd have to know what method was used for resizing, if it's anything but bicubic resizing i wouldn't touch it.
