Instructors in Cork city?

Can anyone reccomend an instructor in the Cork city area?

I currently use the gym at work (Apple computers), they have an instructor who comes in for 2 hours on a monday evening (supposedly). He's a hard guy to track down and I eventually got a hold of him yesterday evening. I briefly talked him through my current routine and asked him would he be able to have a look at it and modify it. However, this guy had to ask me what a french press and a split squat were! He really didn't seem to have a clue about anything, probably a step aerobics instructor they got on the cheap. Didn't exactly fill me with confidence so I'm looking for a different instructor in the city area. I've been using the same routine for over 10 weeks now which I know is not a good thing. I've modified it slightly based on some reccomendations from a mate but, in fairness to him, he's probably not the best authority either.

    Does anyone have any reccomendations?

Distance instruction really would be a last resort. My main concern over that would be getting the techniques right. Its easy to read instructions but only someone who can actually see you doing an exercise is going to be able to correct you. Having said that, I'd be fairly ok at this stage with most mainstream exercises but I'd like to know if I can be doing any of them any better.

Nutrition is something thats more amenable to reading off a website but I always have some kind of awkward question to ask.

I could always just stroll into a gym and ask if they know anyone...

Right - finally sorted out something for myself. The Locker Room on Washington Street offer personal training sessions for non members - bit pricey though, E45. Check it out: http://www.thelockerroom.ie/personal-training.htm

Also, for all you Cork people, I recall someone asking a while ago if there were any gyms in Cork that offer pay per use. Fitton St. gym has for E10.

Mayfield Community complex. Open for both members and non members of the gym there. Think its still €5 a session for non members

Also there are Intense fitness classes €2 members €6 non members.Details are:

Thursday night Mens class 6:30-7:30, ladies class 7:30-8:30
Saturday morning ladies class 11:00-12:00, 12:30-13:30 the lads.

Can't recommend a class more highly.

hi there. hope you got sorted with a personal trainer. Michael here from mypersonaltrainer. thnx to aisling for mentioning me previously. Anyway, no-one listed in cork. Shame considering its a free reg website. May I suggest getting in touch with the ncef or ncehs to see if they have anyone registered. I would be happy to email you a program. You can call me anytime for program or nutrition advice. Keep up the good work. Happy xmas and new year to you all. Michael. www.mypersonaltrainer.ie

WOW - slow down there. How would you feel if you got gym membership for christmas from your boyfriend as he serves you an incredibly small christmas dinner without plum pudding?? Real subtle - he might as well just write 'loose some weight tubby-cakes' in the christmas card.

Why don't you just sit down and talk to him about this? If he's getting a bit weighed down by work then having to go to the gym may seem a bit daunting at first - if he just wants to loose a bit of fat and feel a bit more energetic there are other options. Maybe he'd like to just ease into getting active again with a bit of sports. And hey, why not set an example yourself!?

Check out the 'gyms in cork city' thread here for info on gyms in the area.

maybe i should have made myself clearer, weight isnt really an issue with him and we have discussed the possibility of getting him gym membership,im just weighing up the options, ive a fair idea of most gyms around cork but not about cuts and thought it might b a different route for him.....with regards to my own activity levels im active 4-5 times a week and the training i do doesnt interest him!
