Using it here. not finding any problems with it. Love the spellchecker.

No problems with it so far. Thumbs up.

Upgraded to it the other night, immediately I couldn't add new bookmarks, import old ones etc. Didn't bother even trying to sort it out and upgraded IE to 7 and am happy with that since (so far, the lack of addons and stuff might have me switching back quick enough)

Im using it too, ...l gotta agree with above on the spellchecker

I like it, but miss my SessionSaver, I want them to bring it back for 2.0.

apart from that it is running perfect for me

I like it, but I don't like how they've gone IE7 style with the tabs - individual close buttons and all.
I preferred having one close button on the right for the current tab. I keep accidentally closing tabs when trying to change tabs because they resize depending how many there are to fit in the screen, and thus the close button moves.

For me FF2 hasn't made much difference over 1.5. It has seemed a little more stable and a little faster, but i haven't really spent much time with it yet. (it did seem noticeably faster on my pos work pc).

There's lots of tweaks out for it too, altough I haven't found one good site listing them all yet though ...

You can change that in about:config, look for browser.tabs.closeButtons and set it to which ever value suits
0 - display a close button on the active tab only
1 - Display close buttons on all tabs
    2 - Don't display any close buttons
3 - Display a single close button at the end of the tab strip (like Firefox 1.x)

again in about:config change browser.sessionstore.resume_session to 'true'.

    Ditto.

    Where is this spellchecker?

Always wondered, is there a place you can find out what all the options in about:config do? Like an Idiots Guide to About:Config maybe.

When you accidentally close a tab, right click on an existing tab, undo close tab. Its a godsend.

Looks like my update bolloxed things up. Bookmarks aren't working, the themes menu item seems to have dissapeared (or has it moved?), tabs don't work properly (I can open new ones but pages always just load in the initial tab), and the strangest thing is that the some of the extensions are disabled and they report that it's because they're not compatible with firefox 1.5!?!

I've tried uninstalling all my extension's and even rebooting the machine but it's still fecked!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,806 ✭✭✭Lafortezza

Working perfectly for me, all bookmarks imported fine and adding new ones is ok. The new close tab x's take a bit of getting used to but I find I miss them when I'm in work and not at home.
I only have 1 plugin (downthemall) and it updated and works fine.

Cheers Skywalker ,wasn't aware of that feature.
Just one little snag I have with ff2,
Quite regularly when I'm browsing forums (this one included) if I try to open a link in a new tab the browser "forgets" who I am and I have to log on again.
(Even though the tab is checked to remember username and password.
    :confused::confused:

For those who said that their extensions weren't working wit 2.0 try this. Its an extension made for the Nightly Testers of Firefox. Basically it allows you to bypass the compatibility check of your old extensions and if they work correctly you can then mark them as compatible so they aren't all red and ugly in the Add-ons box. And you can do other cool stuff with it too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,112 ✭✭✭Blowfish

I've been using it since before it was released, and have had absolutely no problems with it. One or two of the extensions still need updating however.

On the surface it does seem almost like 1.5 with a few extra extensions installed, but i'm not sure how much they have done under the hood.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,492 ✭✭✭Sir Oxman

I have stuck with 1.5 cos it works perfectly for me.
Nothing in 2.0 that would make me upgrade plus my exts are exactly how I want them.
Have heard some horror stories from upgraders but as most replies show above, most people have no problems upgrading.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,541 ✭✭✭irlrobins

Upgraded to 2.0 on home PC and works fine. 1 or 2 crashes but I expect that to be a minor bug fix in 2.0.1. Only one extension is still awaiting update but apart from that it's working grand. Seems faster to run. and so far less of a RAM hogger but I haven't used it intensively yet.

Sticking to 1.5.07 on work laptop for now as I know it's more stable and secure.

Kept crashing on me. So I downgraded back to what I had.

I blogged about it here http://www.sparky-s.ie/blog/2006/11/01/firefox-2-and-intels-pro-wireless-3945abg/

No problems with FF2.0 only thing i missed initially was my tabbed browsing extension but i found tab mix plus do do nearly all the same things.

Where's the spell check i keep hearing about? Do i need to enable it or something?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,760 ✭✭✭Theta

The only thing that annoys me is they removed all of the options for quick search so now you have to press crtl+f to do a proper search!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Indeed... i'd like to coin in my opinion.....

    "it stinks"

    .. that is all!

Ah no.. quick question though. Did anyone else notice the feature (don't think it was in v1.5) that if your PC crashes while Firefox is open with tabs and you restart - next time you open Firefox, it prompts you to restore the tabs that were open.

Sounds excellent.. but most importantly, it doesn't work!

It's class. I love the way it can resume sessions after unexpected closure.

I've had sessionsaver running on 2.0 for a bit now. AFAIK there was an update to make it compatible soon after the firefox 2.0 new release. Seems to be working fine anyway

I like the new Firefox, it works fine. I think the spellchecker is great, especially when posting in forums!

My only negative is I like the "find as you type" feature in Firefox, but it's been changed. It's been replace with a slimmed down version "Quick Find". I can still find something on a web page by just typing, but the next, previous and continue from top buttons are gone.

As far as I can see Quick Find only finds the first instance of a word. I have to go to the Edit menu to use the full Find function. I'm disappointed this feature has been downgraded.

Update: I've just found out over on the Firefox IRC channel that Ctrl+G finds the next instance of a word with Quick Find and Ctrl+F opens the full find function.

Updated on the day of release, no problems so far. Only one extention hasn't worked out for me (BioBar) but I know the guy who wrote it so I'll have a word in his ear if he hasn't fixed it in a weeks time.

Happy overall, didn't like the individual 'close' buttons on each tab but I got used to it and there is a fix if I need it :)

EDIT: Sparky, I read your blog report...when I was using FF1.5 I used to have the problem where Firefox would mysteriously not open after I asked it to yet it was resident in the process list and hogging lots of memory. Hasn't happened to me with FF2 yet though.

I'd say those folks having crashes are not starting with a clean profile (the 1.5.x.x profile is still present so Firefox 2 imports data from that) if you backup your bookmarks and delete the folder and run Firefox 2 again it should generate new profile.

Cant say I'm a fan of the new theme too faint & glossy.
Spell checking while nice isn't as good as the Google Toobar spell checker disappointingly.
Memory leaks are finally nailed yay!
Close buttons on tabs I like as I have being doing this with extensions for a long time with Firefox/Firebird/Phoenix.
UI is more responsive no more slowing down in drawing history menus.

Personally so far so good with Firefox 2 but really it is just a polished 1.5.x.x release the real big changes with significant speed increases wont happen till Firefox 3 with it's OpenGL accelerated renderer.

I notice that 'Search' 'Forum Tools' 'Search this Forum' etc(here on Boards) don't work in FF2

I thought they were disabled 'til I tried IE7

There are some really cool add-ons out, i just installed one that allows u to download any video off sites like youtube, just push a little button in the corner, grand!
