Was up in the northwest this weekend and captured this cheecky chappy giving me the eye ;) Lens used is the 70-300 canon. Have a few more to put up from that trip, but they need more PS than just a simple crop :)

hey, you've actually made something fierce ugly look half decent! niceone!

Ordinarily it would be crying out for a B&W conversion, but theres colour in those wings it would be a shame to lose

Would it upset you terribly if I told you it was a Rook, and not a Raven? :) It's the bare face part around the beak and eyes that gives it away.

    Nice shot though!

Wow Zillah, looks great... more PS trickery I'll need to master ;) any tips on what you did? I'm guessing layermask on dplicate layer to b/w the background and keep the Rook (thanks Alun) as is?

I think the 2nd edit works a lot better. I would have downsized it a bit more, unsharp masked it a little bit and maybe tried some vignetting effects - (though that might be overkill).

Nothing so fancy! :) I used the magic wand to select the background, manually changed the selection a teeny bit and desaturated it. Thats it really ;) I did start messing around with layers but I realised the direct route would probably be easiest.
