Hey, was at Tiesto in the point on Saturday. The gig was terrific. The place was hopping!

Myself the girlfriend went up and the whole thing was amazing. There are a few things that took me aback...

The whole drugs thing at the event was massive in our opinion. The gig started at 6pm, but we didn't go till 7pm. At that time the queue was terrible. We queued for an hour solid. A lot of people were moving the barriers and getting in ahead of us. Which pissed us off somewhat, but not much. When we got to the end there were 4 security padding ppl down. What a **** search. IMO there should have been way more security at the event. There were enough guards tho.
Anyway, when we got in to the standing section we stayed in the 1 spot for 3 hours at one of the crowd control barriers. Water was free in one place which was cool, but we didn't see it till later. We bought bottled water which had the cap off. The amount of times we saw drugs was unreal. Some dick took our water from us to take with his pills. I love dance music but am so against drugs. infact I didn't even drink alcohol. The music was enough for us. We are both avid fans of Trance.
Another thing that put a slight downer on the night was the fact that there was no cloak room. Jees it was november, we had to walk from the luas to the point and then back again at 12... We had to lug around our jackets all night. We tied them to the barrier at the start. After 3 hours of dancing, we took a walk around. We swapped our tickets for sitting down ones. This was a great idea. We could see more of the event now, and dance at our seats like everyone else around us. This really turned our night around.
At 11:50 we headed back to the luas. I don't know how much longer he played on for. It was supposed to end at midnight, perhaps it went on for longer.
I have to admit, the crowd that were at it were a good bit younger than the 2 of us, aged 24 and 26.
It was a really good night. Anyway, what I'd like to know is if the event was broadcasted? I'd really like to get my hands on a stream of the music played???

So let me get this straight...
You went to see Tiesto in the Point and were actually surprised by the amount of underagers getting mashed?

Hey Sniipe, no offence intended but that was pretty naive.

I had to read your post a few times as i didnt believe what my i was reading! thought it might be some kind of joke.

Trance + Tiesto + The Point = Kids Mashed on Pills :)

In his defence, if I had went I probably would have had the same thoughts. I jock a lot, and I don't need dope to help me get a long and I do just fine. Same when I go to gigs too. Its all relative guys, so cut him some slack.

    Seanie.

    yeah, I'm an idiot! :D
That said I saw a lot more drugs at it, than when I was at the likes of creamfields/homelands in the uk/planet love/etc...

Perhaps I was a bit pissed off at ur man for taking our bloody water :)

All that said, I would go again if he came to Ireland. I know his musik is very commercial, but I like it...
Anyone have a stream of the music?

i thought it was a decent enough set by tiesto but he wouldnt have had to do much to please the majority of the crowd who just wanted to hear adagio for strings.

Sound system and lights were quality i thought. much better than anything i'd seen in the point before.

i thought crowd control was terrible, queued for 1hr 30 mins to get in and then the whole one way entry thing they had going into the main room was really taking the piss. place was packed though and atmosphere was really good.

Only reason Im glad I didnt make it. Ive lost a coat or hoodie at nearly every Point gig Ive been to (for some reason any gigs Ive been into, Godskitchen, Nas, Snoop, have been in cold weather). I do throw it behind some security railings where I think nobody will be arsed enough to climb in and rob it. Im always wrong :( Jesus I nearly froze to death outside Godskitchen on Paddys Eve afterwards. Do they still enforce that nonsense no under 21s bar policy?

So, any idea if or when hes comin back? Did he say?

was at the gig myself. to be honest i didnt really enjoy it at all. I knew what to expect when i got there so i was prepared for it all. im not really the biggest trance fan but.
Most of the people there were just there for the drugs and as pointed out earlier adagio for strings id say 85% of the people there wouldnt be able to tell u the name of anything else he played for his set.

Yes its still 21's at the bars, but some bars were more lenient than others. I seen people in their late 20 get refused as they had no id and some of my friends who were 19 got served. In fact some of my friends got served with IDs that said they were 20!
Tiesto played a great set I though, and the video's and lighting were amazing.
We got there about 5:45 and only queued about 20-30mins to get in, so not too bad.
Full of drugs alright, but it wasn't noticable away from the bars I though.
Getting asked if I had any pills got annoying after the 10th time though.

Having seen him in HiFi I thought the Set was a lot better than the crap he came out with at HiFi. The crowd although young did not have anywhere near the amount of scallies in the place an I seen quite a few people being turfed out so it appeared they had some amount of security there, not to mention the DS who despite wearing playing clothes always manage to stick out a mile with their awful attire.

Anyway, I was impressed with Tiesto, he needed a big performance after HiFi, he didn't over indulge in Trance and kept it quite upbeat. Crowd were fine, no problems at all, thats drugs for ye! Only disappointment was Adaggio for Strings played twice at the end...Lethal Industry replayed would have finished the night nicely or Voyage it is Adaggio is the only song I don't really listen to anymore from Tiesto.

Anyway, excellent and hopefully 2Fm will air it shortly :)

Well I absolutely loved it! I thought the music was great, there was enough space to dance, like you weren't squashed or anything. Absolutely loved the remix of Chasing Cars.
How people got so many drugs in is a mystery to me because we got a good thorough search, my mates wallet was opened and all his coins/cards were taken out. There was one guy goin around in a hoodie and that's all he was doing was selling drugs!
But other than that I was surprised at the lack of trouble/fights given the nature of the people that went. In fairness most people just seemed to be there to enjoy the music. I had a fair bit to drink so can't remember much of what he played, but I remember Adagio for Strings, Traffic (wow!), Lethal Industry (amazing!), Flight 643.
Also I think he played til about 1:30am(can't remember exact times) which was kool, although I was physically wrecked from dancing. But all told, it was a great night and I would definitely go again

Thanks for that! :) I was just baffled as to how he got so much drugs in, he must have known somebody on the door

That's the difference between people on drink and people on E.

I really love my trance and moved over to Ireland last year but I have to say that I will probably never go to any nights in this country because from what I hear about the crowd you get over here I'd rather not bother. I'm 33 and never feel like I'm much older than anyone else at nights out back home and the crowds are usually great. It's as cheap for me to head back there when I want to go clubbing anyway thanks to Ryanair.

Glad you had a good night anyway.

Tiesto lost the right to have his music classified as "Trance" years ago. All he's putting out now is ****ty commercial "rock" dance...

I'd like to believe the mainstream R&B/hiphop thing is dying out.
Uncle Tom scumbags the lot of them, but unfortunately I think big labels in the US have invested far to much money in this genre to allow it to just peeter out.
You can expect a "rap idol" type show on MTV very soon to keep the punters hooked, thats if there isnt one already!

yeah... if u like Tiesto, u really should check out some of the recent dance hits from Europe....

it's pretty clear that dance music is coming back in the USA ... and around the world... hip-hop and r&b are finally dying out…..

everyone knows that the hottest stuff comes from the euros.....check this compilation series on itunes… it’s the “Euro Club Hits” series… for example….. extremely good stuff – here’s the direct itunes link:
