XBOX cant do HD. The component cable will deffo improve general image quality though.

PAL xbox's cant do HD, but if you have a modded xbox and change it to NTSC it can.

Got a cheap one off ebay.com, but not the official one :( , very hard to find so no optical out

edit: hmmm why did the 360 cable come up in the xbox section...........i'll find another link

Wrong, XBMC will allow you to run movies in HD, but the xboxes' hardware aint good enough for hd movie playback, and you'll get 10fps if your lucky.

So, technically a MODDED xbox can be told to output in HD, but it wont be able to do so at a bearable framerate.

    wrong?

did i say i wanted to play HD stuff on it?

I simply want to run xbmc at 720p.........which you can

I didnt say you couldn't  In fact, I said the opposite.

But I cant see the point of running xbmc in 720p.... "ohhh, HD menus"

But anyway, whatever your into. You'll more than likely need the official xbox component cable, your xbox running in NTSC, and HD selected in xbmc/unleash x whatever you need it for.

yep it looks pretty **** through the normal cables on the samsung lcd i just got, so no harm in spending 10 euros if it looks better ;)

True, the stadard xbox/ps2/gamecube composite cables connected to any lcd display look like sick.

I'll be picking up a component cable too when I eventually get my hdtv.....

*shakes fist at needing to spend tv money on xmas presents*

kaiser just make sure you switch your modded xbox to NTSC otherwise the HD option wont become available as it's only on NTSC bios.

You have to go into the regular video setup on the normal Xbox bios and make sure you tick 480p/720p/1080i

Then XBMC will run grand on your HDTV at 720p or 1080i

    Avalaunch also supports 1080i too.

the latter one looks just like the rare official ms one, but do you need some sort of component to component cable with this?

Despite whats been said on this thread the xbox can do 480p, 720p, and indeed 1080i on certain games. So yes, it can "do" HD.

A modded one can do 720p in xbmc for movies, Ive never really had a problem running them through that either. I got a cheap one off ebay, I doubt your gonna see any improvement between that and the official one.

Id recommend the component cable in any case as 480p does give a marked improvement over 480i. Games like black look a lot prettier. If you've any questions once you get it dont be afraid to ask, it can be a bit finiky getting it set up to work optimally.

    ^^^

It wasnt games people were refering too but HD media playback.

The Xbox has a number of 720p & a couple of 1080i titles....

    Kaiser....

As for getting a component cable, if you can go for the official ones.
I bought cheap ones before and the problem is they cause ghosting at 720p/1080i and it looks cat..

For the extra bucks the official cable is a lot better.

It will come with a 5 pinned phono cable for connecting to the adapter too, mine did. :)
