The computer begins to boot. Goes into a screen saying "Windows did not start successfully. Start in safe mode(3 differnt options), last safe configuration or start normally. Whichever option I select it's the same. The Windows logo screen flashs up for a split sec followed by a blue screen with some writing on it for a split a second and then the computer switchs off.
I'm giving to a local tech tomorrow. Any thoughts b4 I do.

    Computer model? Windows version?

Try going into the BIOS (usually either Delete or one of the F keys on the logo screen - it'll say on it) and seeing if there is an option to disable power offs on errors.

Try to get some information from the blue screen if you can. Did you add any new hardware lately?

The computer os is Windows xp s.pack2, Ankermann computer 2 months old.
    Intel CoreDuo,ASROCK 775DUAL-VSTA ,ATI RADEON x800,RAM 1024MB TRANSCEN PC667, 525W MAXSILENT 525Watt

I added an interal modem when I got it. It had AVAST, S&D protection.
I can't read the blue screen as it's literally a split second on the screen b4 it's gone. I tried the pause button without success. Is their a way to capture the blue screen? Was think of using a camera, stupid idea probably.

Apologies. The computer doesn't actually power off but goes back to the original "Windows did not sart successfully" page.
I can get into BIOS, if it's any help.

go into your bios, and look around, where it says "select primary boot device" select "boot from cd" option. save and exit, reboot, with the xp cd in the drive and see what happens

Not a bad idea at all, I got the same error a while back. Worked for me :D

Enclosed is a pic, but this dosen't mean you have the same probs, as it will most likely be a different error code. My problem was a bollxed HDD.
