Pure quality...I hate getting emotional over animals but this show gets me everytime. That polar bear realy got the sh*t end of the stick....and the other one at the end was good for some comic relief (unless it was you in the hit)

I hape they bring this out on HD format at some stage...it'll be my first purchase...

It looked fabulous and yep I'm a sucker for baby pengins and polar bears too. I'd prefere it if they gave some emphisis to the science of what we are seeing but as its a Discovery co-production I guess thats asking too much.

    Mike.

The poor Polar Bear, heart wrenching stuff, he should be made a legend of the boards or something.....
but on a serious note a very well done episode

I think the most significant features of this series as opposed to Attenboroughs other narrations is his definite stance on the effects of global warming etc.

Hopefully the scenes of the Polar Bear unable to survive will emphasise the importance of looking after the planet.

Amazing show it must be said and definitely the main TV feature of the up coming weeks.

You probably know already, but in case you don't - it's being shown in HD on BBC HD at the same time. Jawdropping.

I saw this on sunday at the usual slot of 9 o clock on bbc. I was very impressed with the camera work. It really is amazing the lengths they go to just to cover one episode in such harsh conditions. One thing I found quite startling was they were showing the Polar bear from afar (maybe from a helicopter) swimming the ocean in searh of land/food. There was then a shot of the polar bear from underneath swimming underwater. Amazing stuff.
You really do have to feel for those penguins alright, what a sh!tty life they have most of the year with the worst winter conditions on earth.

Absolutely fantastic tv.. I would love to see it on HD.

I felt so sorry for the poor polar bear.

As regards the penguins.. isnt it amazing how they mate for life?? I love the way that the female penguins come back after the winter and know who their mate and child are.

I loved the way the males all got excited when they saw the females coming back!

Didn't know about it in HD already on broadcast...really be a stretch money wise for me to gte in skyHD, maybe when the price drops...my BBC1 is like watching through a blizzard a lot of the time anyways...luckily there are people out there who rip it in SD...

Only just watched the first ten minutes or so of the first episode, and it has to be amongst the greatest pieces of television ever. The wolf chasing the baby caribou was possibly the saddest thing I've ever seen. I know its nature and it happens, but it was so incredibly dramatic.

I'm going to make it my business to watch an episode a night for the rest of the week.

Dying to watch it in proper HD, it is the first show BBC did in HD isn't it?

Were these the ones shown before or is this new stuff?

    New

Not completely new. The mother polar bear & 2 cubs emerging from the snow hole were featured once more, but with added footage, plus detail on what the cameramen had to go through to capture the images.
