Copying a data DVD...

Alright I'm currently copying files (4gb of .avi's) from a DVD-rw to a DVDr so I can blank the RW and use it for something else.
Now when I tried to simply drag and drop one disc onto the other I got windows error messages.
Then I tried copying it by selecting all the files and hitting copy to...
    Still no joy.

Finally figured that nero should make short work of this....well it's working but certainly not at the speed I was thinking it would....first it did something called a simulation (about 35min) and is currently 70% done burning (8X disc) and I have nero set to verify the disc...

So all in all it'll take almost an hour and a quarter. What's the problem here?I've ripped and decrypted vobs quicker....my system is lagging like my RAM is all being used (1gb)
I thought that something as simple as copying a dvd between two drives would be a ~20min job...so why the long wait?...and why couldn't windows manage it?

Is there a way to make this a faster process?

Windows does not natively support writing to DVD's hence that's why drag & drop didn't work.

You were on the right track with Nero but a simulation is just that a simulation of copying the disc (not actually doing it) you don't have to do this it's for testing purposes.

Finally un-tick the box for on the fly recording this will instruct Nero to make an image of the disc on the hard drive and then burn it to a new disc.

Verify is also unessential though as it adds time to the project but useful if you want to make sure there are no reading errors on the new disc.

Also if the source disc is any way damaged or has reading problems this can also slow down the process.

If I were you I'd cancel the job and start again without the simulation, verify and copy on the fly mode ticked.

Thanks for the quick reply....I verify all the time so that I know it's sfae to delete the originals from the HDD. Job's done now so no need to cancel.

Okay so simulation is basically a waste of runtime.

At last I know fr next time....not something I do very often if at all, just thought it'd be quicker than it ended up being...
