Any ideas? Sooner rather than later anyways!

My suggestion would be someplace rural, with no unnatural light, some nice scenery, and head out there at 11 o'clock, and practise our 15 minute exposures :D

flask of some hot beverage and a flashlight would be necessary additional items eh?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,464 ✭✭✭evilhomer

    Wicklow mountains?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Are the Wicklow Mt's good? Could be interesting.

Flask of hot whiskey you mean Fionn ;)

Flashgun's are great for light painting... any ruined buildings or the like up there?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 710 ✭✭✭Dundhoone

    Pah wickow mountains

Gwan, limerick, I know ye want to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 349 ✭✭digitalage

Theirs an old ruined house near lough Dan which would be good for light painting, heres a pic of the house found on the web. A bit of hike to get there, two ways one via roundwood or via sallysgap, great area for photography.

    Ah Limerick's a bog! :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 710 ✭✭✭Dundhoone

er....and the wicklow mountains are a hilly bog in all fairness!!

Na wouldnt be fair dragging ye east coasters all the way over here until the summer, when a few of the nice tourist stuff places are open again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

It's the hills that matters! :p

Waterford ain't too far away, so I wouldn't mind travelling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,584 ✭✭✭leinsterman

How about the Avoca valley ... and Parnell's House in Avondale ... very nice ... lots of trees n other green stuff ... plus there is Avoca itself (also known as "Ballykissangel" from the TV series) ... Alternatively we could do the Bray - Greystones cliff walk ... easily accessible by Dart ... Also really good is the hike around Maulin and Djouce mountain ... there are a few ways to do this ... one via a forest on the road to Enniskerry... another from the Guiness lake at Lough Tay and another goes above the powerscourt waterfall ... all have their own unique charm ... I'd be happy to act as guide ... but I'm so out of shape someone will need to carry my oxyegen bottle ... I'll drive ... wanna lift Fajitas ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

    Lift'd do perfect :D

    No probs Fajitas! ...

lets do it soon though ...

The combo of autumnal colours and evening light is very tempting ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Hmmmm... Well...We could always head out for the evening light, wait til sundown...shooting constantly...and move on to our 15 mins exposures...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,620 ✭✭✭Roen

Don't forget the outing down this way too lad!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

    I know, I know!

That's more dependant on when my shiney new 5D arrives into the country though....

    Full frame...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,620 ✭✭✭Roen

Ye can try out my fancy lenses on it when you get it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

    Excellent!

My plan is working out perfectly!

I guess you can have a look at the 5D too :p

    (Look...no touching :D )

how about somewhere a bit closer to Cork this time? Save the ol leaving the house at 6am thing...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,073 ✭✭✭Xios

If anyone has no problem with authority, i'd suggest the glen of imaal in the wicklows, might get some shots of tanks :)

Anywhere in the west is good with me. As for when, I'd suggest the night of the 18-19th of November, weather permitting. Its just before the new moon (which is the 20th), which will be rising during the day anyways so the sky will be pitch black if you can find a spot away from light pollution, all of which will mean a spectacular display of the leonids. I'll be up for it if anyone wants to provide transportation to the spot and a floor to sleep on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,735 ✭✭✭mikeanywhere

How about some of you townies come out to the west for a change. It isnt always about the east coast etc

Our head office is utterly convinced that Galway is 50 miles down the M1 from Dublin...and these are people who run a branch of an island-spanning company. God help the pedestrian Dublin folk that can be found on these boards. :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,424 ✭✭✭440Hz

Yeah gwan.... somewhere further south would be nice... Im taking some time off in the next fortnight and on for photos pretty much anywhere. Heading to Galway, and possibly further North if i feel energetic next week. I dont mind travelling but I think there are a load of southern folk who would love to go on a meet but just cant make it up for Dublin :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,584 ✭✭✭leinsterman

Well my bro has a place in West Cork ... I think it is near Crookhaven ... a bit of a drive for us Dubs but I'd be up for it ... I can see if he is willing to part with the keys for a weekend ... but it is a six hour drive ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,775 ✭✭✭Sebzy

yes overnight accommodation and some nice scenery would be good.

We could do a weekend bus thingy.

Now that sounds like fun - bags the top bunk!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,424 ✭✭✭440Hz

Yup would def be up for something like that :) My photo drought seems to be passing and Im looking forward to lots of snapping now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,063 ✭✭✭GristlyEnd

Will head pretty much anywhere with notice. Overnighting sounds like a great idea as long as it's cheap :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,763 ✭✭✭Fenster

If we could settle on a date first, it would be great, as I'm sure I'm not the only person who needs to book time off work. The night of the 18-19th seems perfect, as it's a new moon, the peak of the Leonids shower and a Saturday night/Sunday morning.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 710 ✭✭✭Dundhoone

aaargghh the 18th is the only night in the month I'll be in Dublin !!!:(

Think I know the perfect place Charleville Forest Castle Co Offaly

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charleville_Forest_Castle

If people are up for it I can look up somewhere to stay.

    Seb.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,620 ✭✭✭Roen

Hmmmm, how big is the forest? I wouldn't be too pushed about the castle but I love the outdoor thing...a lot.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,763 ✭✭✭Fenster

We need a location that's miles from a town as light pollution will destroy most long exposures, I had problems even when I was ten miles from Galway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,735 ✭✭✭mikeanywhere

To be able to do both especially would be great especially for those who have never been there and would like to get as much as possible in the session.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

but it is a six hour drive ...

Not for me it aint :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,073 ✭✭✭Xios

I'd be up for this, if i can get money and a lift? But then again, it's very strange going away into the country, as far from electrical civiliazation as possible to watch the sky

/edit forgot to mention that it's with strangers from the internet, lol :)

Would anyone be interested in going someplace sat/sun this weekend, even for a day trip? Offaly or Cork are both good for me, I dont mind travelling (a couple of hours worth anyways!) (six is just nuts)

I can do that wkend... been trying to follow the thread for the current location choice... im taking an internet break lately so im only checking in every couplr of days...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 69 ✭✭tab126

The UCD photo society is taking a trip that weekend. I think a South Coast tour.. probably a private one w/ whatever bus company does it. Judging from the latest meeting, I doubt the bus will be full. Would anyone be interested in seeing if you could piggy-back on that bus? Price depends on the number of people that sign up... and the organizer needs to know by this weekend. I'll be out of the country thurs-sun, so if you are interested, let me know and I'll set up the contacts quickly. Just a thought.

I'll have you know that Cork is a damnsight better than Limerick. Even Dublin is better than Limerick these days

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,584 ✭✭✭leinsterman

Do we have a location yet ?

West Cork is fine for me but the 19th does not work ... Ireland v Australia has priority ...

Promise we wont leave you anywhere without a nice thick armored vest:D

although unless you are into photography as an extreme sport, you probably wont need to go to the parts of the city you might need one!

something tells me that looking like a press photographer around Southill isn't an especially good idea...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 97 ✭✭Greysoul

If I can get a ride there and back and a place to stay, I'm definitely up for it. =)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,424 ✭✭✭440Hz
