Perfect opportunity wasted, in any real world the fare would be €1 and 50¢ the obsession with 5¢ fares in DB

Make way more sense, is much easier handle in cash terms, zero change tickets way faster boarding a perfect demo of how to speed up Dublin Bus not forgetting the kids are half fare right ?

Does this mean the 50¢ shopper fare has been suspended?

Of course it makes more sense.

The fares are set by the DoT, not Dublin Bus. They would not legally be able to offer a €1 flat fare as the lowest stage fare is 95c. They were forced to issue change tickets by the government of the time when they first introduced exact fare only, every other city I know of that operates the same system does not give any change option.

They tried to simplify the fares a few years back by combining the 2 lowest stage groups into a €1 fare but were turned down by the DoT. No doubt they were afraid of the newspaper stories with grannies complaining that their fare had gone up by huge amounts.

Hopefully this is one area the new transport regulator can sort out quickly, if they can't do that then we will soon know that they are another quango with no real power.

lets hope the drivers know about, when the 50c fare came in i had a lot of trouble trying to convince drivers that i wasnt trying to pull a fast one, it got to the stage where i was carrying aroung the page from the paper that had the ad on it to prove it was genuine. happened on the 46a a lot

    A VERY interesting thread this...
Put at it`s simplest, very little progress in Bus Running and particularly Dwell times unless Dublin Bus either gets Departmental sanction for a complete revamp of it`s Fare Collection procedures...OR...The company decides to Face down its Departmental handlers and go it alone !!

Two posts on this thread underline the total mess which currently prevails.

    A) The "Shoppers Fare" is 60c and has been since the last fare revision.
However, the website continues to advise of 50c.
There is NO availability of a 50c Shoppers Fare value.
The old Wayfarer 2 ticket machines had a dedicated SF button which allowed a fast issue of such tickets.
The current Wayfarer TGX has the SF issue buried deep within an "Alternative Ticket" sub-menu,result delays, head scratching etc etc.

    B) Dublin Bus DID actually introduce the €1 Adult expanded fare group (Presumably WITH prior Departmental Approval) but was prevailed upon to withdraw it after some rather dubious intervention from senior CIE management figures who seemingly took fright at the negative reaction from the usual political scene suspects.
The company were further instructed to apologise and offer 2 "Free Travel" weekends as a reminder that Lunatics can actually run asylums in this Republic.

There remain quite a few unanswered serious questions concerning the role of 1) The Dept of Transport
    2)The Board of Dublin Bus
3)The Board of CIE in the debacle as it was possibly the first inkling that the Company had identified the current Fare and Ticketing system as a Major contributory factor to Delays in Bus Operation.

This really is an issue that cuts to the core of how public transport is viewed by those in charge and it does not make for optomism !!!

I drove on sunday and was informed over the radio 4hrs into my shift that this offer was available to the public, so for the final 2 1/2 hrs i offered it.
But lads taking up their shifts in town wouldnt have had a clue.

    ZERO PR or staff info.

I was wondering why the bus driver only charged me 95c last Sunday. He said something about it only being for that day but I just thought he's ticket machine was brokern or some such.

Umm, am I the only one who heard no advertisements at all for this??

To think that even some bus drivers might not have been informed is appalling.

I can understand from the view of Dublin Bus, they will lose alot of money from this promotion, and the cost to advertise on radio or newspapers would be more loss, there is a notice in every bus depot, problem is not all driver's start work in the depot, and with faulty radios etc, trying to get the message out to all drivers is near impossible, although a notice on every bus in a position that staff and customers would see should have been sorted.

Today, I was only charged 95c for a trip that normally takes €1.50. The bus driver said that this will be the case for the next two Sundays, with everytrip costing just 95c.
    Anyone know why this is?

Sorry, I didn't see it, this is my first time on this forum.
If the mods could lock, that would be great.

I was charged full fare last sunday. I had lots of bags I was struggling with so I just paid and sat down.

I honestly think this 95c thing is stupid, think of the money they'll lose, then they'll put all prices up by 5/10/15c in the new year and we'll be paying for their "generosity" for the year, with more increases in 12/14 months time. Anyone else think it's just an easy way to show they "need" an increase due to the quarterly figures? Maybe I really am becoming overly cynical!

    That's all I agree with.

It's cheap fair the quietest day of the week for a month. Hardly a huge financial loss.
Get over it and enjoy it while you can.

In the lead up to christmas, will buses really be that quiet on sundays? I'd rather pay full fare now, and take less of a fare increase in January, thanks very much.

Anyone know the figures on how much they make on an average sunday?

Its much better to take the marginal cut in fares and have more people use buses (but why not advertise more) than deal with Sunday afternoon shopping traffic.

I tried to pay just 95c on Sunday but the driver said I had to pay full fare to Blanchardstown from the city centre.

I asked was there not a promo and he said he never heard about it !!!!

Think I will stick to the train. So much for giving Dublin bus a chance.
