Medion=Tevion... Same company, and considering the Medion branded 32" LCD (link below) has a good few more features than Aldi's offer, but costs € 699.- , there's hope that the one from Aldi is even chaper :-D

    https://www.medionshop.de/?partnerID=0100317832&popup=false&et_cid=14&et_lid=22

It has VGA input according to specs, so looks like it can be used as a monitor.

Wasnt this in aldi before? If so was it a good tv?

Be interesting to see how much.

Might work well as a monitor

All you'll need then is a big oversized mouse and oversized keyboard to go with it.

at least 5% more due to the difference in VAT (16% vs 21%).

I guess it will go for 649 Euro

A short summary of a thread on avsforums with many unhappy buyers of the previous tevion/medion tv from aldi. I'd be very happy to hear they've ironed the bugs out for this release but keep the receipt handy if you do go for it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 460 ✭✭twanda

hmmm... with regards to those in-depth technology reviews, I think their expectations are a tad high for what will hopefully be a low priced LCD TV.

I personally would be happy just watching my TV programmes and DVDs on it, therefore If this TV is anwhere around the €600-700 mark , I will seriously consider buying it.

would it definately be truly hd?.ok i know it won,t do 1080p.
but would it be the job for a xbox 360 and sky hd?.

Of course, The 360 runs at 720P. It looks impressive. Like wise with sky, Has HDMI inputs, You're sorted. It will run in 1080i but its not true 1080i. It downscales to 720p.

With regards the TV not having PIP. I laughed when someone mentioned that above. I think I have used that all of once ( the day I got my samsung ) And Havn't ever pressed that button since.

In geneally how are the Medion/Tevion built? Would they be good quality?

Just read that page and the review is well over a year old. Maybe they have come on from that?

    Straight to the point?

Is this the model? Not as cheap as I thought it would be cheaper

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 586 ✭✭✭The_g-man

That link still works for me, it's basically a short summary of this:
    http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=213625
I didn't bother trawling through all 113 pages, just checked the last three where some happy punters claimed excellent picture quality after tweaking, but they had also splashed out on SkyHD, they are talking about another 2006 model:
    http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=329992
That one showed up in April, things are looking up for this model. Also, most people had no problem using the 12 month no quibble return. Some managers were grinding their teeth about the number of returns from 2005 because the newer model came out in under 12 months, and tried to insist a medion engineer needed to be called out. Seems everybody got sorted in the end.

    no point playing guessing games
we need to wait for a price

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 623 ✭✭✭hawker27

i,d say we are looking in the price range of 600+.i would say 650 or 699 would be amazed if it were cheaper.

roughly what time would one need to be outside aldi on the 23rd november to get one of these lcd?.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,464 ✭✭✭Kristok

For the poster who asked about medion quality, ive a few things from medion and have to say I consider them to be a good quality brand not like lidls silvercrest items which dont seem to be built as good.

If you want this telly id be there an hour before opening cause if its cheap youll be queing for it.

..well I purchased their car stereo last week, and that involved queuing outside a half hour before they opened. Loads of people were there for the same thing.. I would imagin it'll be the same scenario with these.

Re Medion quality - slightly o/t but I have one of their PCs which I found to be very good.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 16,659 ✭✭✭✭dahamsta

I found their PC's good too, using a two year old one as a server now, although it would still be perfectly good as a workstation. Only problem it ever had was a tendency for the card reader to go missing in Windows, a known issue.

Do Aldi still take back orders; i.e. can I arrive late and order one for collection in a month or so?

I think my Medion rig took about 5-6 weeks, but I wouldn't be in a rush as long as it arrived at some stage. I just don't see the point in queueing when I can, you know, not. :)

    Thanks.

just wondering would this 32 hd lcd connect up easily to a xbox 360 and display hd quality gaming graphics?.
been reading on a few threads lots of ppl having trouble connecting or messing about with various cables trying to get hd quality from there hd ready tv,s.

this tv from aldi has hdmi input but i know theres no cable for the xbox360 yet for that route.

but would the component or vga input on this telly display true hd graphics?
and if so what cable would i need?.

as i,m getting my son a xbox360 for xmas and spoiling myself to maybe this tv from aldi,so need a little info on cable needed to display true hd quality gaming.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 23,243 Mod ✭✭✭✭godtabh

Its got Component input so afaik it will accept the xbox 360 hd signal witht the component wires that come with the 360.

The Targa one only has DVI. The other has HDMI which is better.

Over all which is the better spec? I think Aldi one is better

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 23,243 Mod ✭✭✭✭godtabh

Any one have any decent reviews of it yet? Or even a direct link to actual model.

Not much up on AV forums.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 271 ✭✭homerjk

I was half thinking of getting one of these, but I have NTL cable and from trawling through some those avforum posts, the last version of this model produced crap pictures. I would love to see someone on here review it first and then get one, but id say these will be snapped up pretty quick...

Also I watch a lot of football and I would hate it if it was one of those tvs where the football looks like its being played in slow motion. Anyone else notice this on some tvs? I see it all the time in pubs although this could because their signal is split...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 623 ✭✭✭hawker27

surely would,nt be a bad tv for that price, and it would be a great little combi with a xbox360 i think.

well i,m getting the young fella a 360 for xmas and think i,m going to plunge for it,as it might be a nice xmas for both of us him and his 360 me and my 32 hd lcd tv for the footy, but the xbox360 and smackdownVraw2007 could take over my tv lol:rolleyes:

I agree, I have yet to see an LCD or Plasma that has good enough quality to show football. This is the very reason why im sticking with my CRT. I would love a flat panel, but the quality of even the most expensive brands isnt great for sport.
