Replace Screen of Laptop - How Difficult

    Hi,

My laptop has a cracked screen. It is fully insured internationally (bought in usa). I have 3 options:
    1. I can get an Irish Company to fix the laptop - however everyone charges too much.
    2. The insurance company can fedex me a box to pick up my laptop and it fix it for me. Turn around 3 weeks. I need my laptop and cannot afford to go 3 weeks without it.
    3. They can send me the parts and I can replace the screen myself.

I fix computers but have never really done anything with laptops. So my question is: Is it hard to replace a laptop screen? What is usually involved.
    I have a Compaq Presario v2335us.

    Thanks for any help advice.

It's a relatively easy if occasionally a little fiddly. On any laptops I've taken apart to fix the screen has been one of the earlier parts you remove. So long as you have the right screw driver and some patience it should be fine.

Have done it a few times on IBM Thinkpads.

Its straight forward ,,a few good websites with instructions and pics around.

It is sometimes cheaper to buy a broken laptop than a screen on its own .

I have seen 2nd hand IBM screen for €400+ ,,you could get a
    scrap laptop for way less

I've done so on a HP laptop, very easy to do, but just make sure you know what your at before you go at, otherwise things might get a lil' messy!

I took apart an old presario a while back and it came apart quite easily. There are PDFs of maintenance manuals floating about hp's website so you might find one for your laptop there.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm gonna fit it myself then.

Found this walkthrough with images. Looks straight forward enough.

If it had been someone else's laptop I wouldn't have thought twice and done it but when it is my own laptop...
