Anyone going to this? I'm really looking forward to seeing Bardo Pond, just recently discovered them and I'm loving what I hear. Saw Tucker before and he's amazing. Weird folk drone stuff, highly recommended.

I think this is the first time Bardo Pond have played Ireland? Nearest I've seen them mentioned is ATP... excellent headphone listening stuff, but I have the feeling that live it just wouldn't keep my attention (plus in whelans if they're not extremely loud all you'll hear is people talking). Chuck up a quick review after the gig, interested to see how it would be..

I'll be reviewing it for brainwashed so I'll post a link after. I've heard a couple of live CDs of BP and they sound like they can cut it live. One was an acoustic set for a small audience which could be disasterous in Whelan's but the other one they ripped it up a bit.

So was the gig any good? I have listened to their stuff before, wasn't overly impressed, songs seemed a bit too drone like and too long

I saw them (Bardo Pond) at ATP. I grabbed myself a seat... but they actually ended up being a great band to watch from a seat. After a slow start the songs picked up and I was enjoying them immensely. Nice surprise as I wasn't estatic about whatever tracks I previewed before the performance.

I think it was my mood - I was wrecked from the night before - but I thought they were grand. Either I expected more, or I just wanted to go to bed. Or maybe it was because I was drinking shandy to balance the gutwrenching nausea from the night before with hair of the dog.

    Enjoyable all the same.

Alexander Tucker was good. In some places, I thought he was amazing - very folky voice in a Ewan McColl kinda way - and really beautiful in some places. But I did think he got a bit tiresome in places. But that's his live thing. I have to get his recorded stuff. Also, he looked tall on stage, but was tiny in real life.

Missed Thread Pulls, and that's no bad thing.
