Monitor Problem - Any Advice

A friend has a problem with a PC in his store. The monitor randomly switches itself off (well sort of). The "No Signal Detected" warning appears so obviously the monitor still has power.

No matter what he does the monitor stays in this state. He has checked the cabling and all appears well, so all he can do to get it back on is to turn the PC off/on, losing unsaved work.

Thinking it was an old monitor (which it was) he got a much newer model and cable. He is still having the same trouble!

Is there anyone who may have experienced this before, if so your advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

What make of PC is it? Onboard graphics or dedicated graphics?

has he checked the power settings on the screensaver tap in display properties might be set to turn off after certain length of time

That doesn't show the no signal detected message though.

Try a different monitor on the computer to narrow things down, it'll tell you if the video card is the problem anyway.

edit: oops nevermind. make/model of video card would be good as mentioned.

    Seems it was already tried.

Just to be safe, is hibernation disabled. or even standby.

If it is, it sounds like the graphics have gone kaput.

I'm not actually too sure, he just rang me earlier a little frustrated. I am guessing the machine has onboard graphics (nothing too fussy as its just a store PC), and that this may be where the problem is. I was guessing it may also have something to do with maybe a dodgy cable but he has assured me he replaced the original one.

I'm don't think the problem would involve the Display Settings seeing as the NO Signal message is appearing. I'll get more info off him in the morning but its a bit baffling alright.
