    Hi folks,

if you want to sell your classic cars watch out for alleged car buyers from England...
I got the weirdest email... it started like a normal customer but it changed quick into sending money back and forth. A spurious cousin with no money plays a role and asking a lot of favours...

    Strange people ;-)

    I attached the emails:

    marton jones <shoprite4@fastermail.com> 2. November 2006 08:32
    An: benjamin.lichtenberg@gmail.com
    hello,

i saw your advert on the internet ....MERCEDES-BENZ 200 for 7,800 euros....i am really interested to buy the car.....can u kindly get back to me so that we can arrange for view......i am ou of town but my cousin can come and view it.

get back o me as soon as possible because i will like o present it o my father for his coming birthday.

    An: Benjamin Lichtenberg <benjamin.lichtenberg@gmail.com>

i dont have your number.....i have just discussed with my cousin and he said he can come over the week end........and their is a little problem which i think u can help in sorting out because i am out of town.......he need 50 pounds to use for transportin and he said he cannot collect western union money transfer because his international passport is not valid at the moment.

i can send you 50 pounds via western union money transfer today or tomorrow and when you collect it then you will help me buy a bank draft in his name and send it to him through first class mail.........i would also like to know if you know national irish bank because he said it is possible to buy their bank draft issue out in pounds and not in euros......i think this favour is not too much for u to do......get back to me so that i can send the 50 pounds through western union . thanks a lot...kindly give me your mobile number

    regards, jonathan

    Happy classic motoring,
    Benjamin

I can't see the car and then my cousin can, but he forgot his bank account number and then the dog ate his bus ticket and he dropped his wallet in a puddle and couldn't get it because the water was dirty.....anyway, can I have 50 pounds please?

Scam. Once you see Western Union run away!

I'll swap you 3 magic beans for the Merc (these are not the standard magic beans either- they've been infused with pixie dust recently)

Nigerian or possibly but highly unlikely, Ghanaian.

I see this shit every day.

Thankfully, if those little sweaty flea ridden parasites had an original thought, their brains would explode.

Deal is, they send you a fake cheque for more than the amount, and then "pls u give da extra money da funds to mi couzin who is visiting LONDON UK by Westahn Ooneeoon ok"

By the time your bank raises its formidable brow to inform you the cheque is a bad 'un, Olesegun Makwabe has scarpered with your money and is spending it on brassers and widescreen TVs and such.

Google 419 for more, and please, tell a friend.

Oh, and, while they may be sponging off welfare somewhere in Croydon, Amsterdam, or Tallaght, that doesn't make them English, Dutch or Dub. Does he write like a naturalised UK resident?

It’s a bit disingenuous to suggest that its only Nigerian’s that scam. There is a “legitimate” company in the UK called Vehicle Match that says they that they have people waiting to buy your car at the full asking price, and for a “small fee” they can facilitate the deal. Complete SCAM stay away……..

Not quite. There are many different forms of internet scam out there, which was the topic I believe initially. The type of scam alluded to by the OP is predominantly Nigerian in origin. The Romas and Russians tend to be more into phishing, and other activities, and although no geniuses themselves, are a cut above this cut and paste crap that so many of us see.

We should be thankful that their grammar is so poor in the first instance.
