restart for internet

    a friend has to restart his computer to get online. any ideas how to sort it?:rolleyes:

    Some system details would be good, what kind of internet access has your friend got for a start?

    he's running xp is using eircom broadband but had the problem with dial up. the computer starts fine when he clicks on the internet explorer button it comes up cannot find server, he then has to restart, internet explorer opens fine.

    Could be his DNS settings are messed up. More than likely his eircom modem is automatically assigning the PC it's settings. Try manually entering these settings and see if that helps. The usual eircom modem address is 192.168.1.254 so try these settings:

    PC IP address: 192.168.1.10
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway IP address: 192.168.1.254

    Primary DNS: 213.94.190.194
    Secondary DNS: 213.94.190.236

    If he's still having probleems, try using a new network card/cable.
