We do it from time to time. First time we tried it with just bongos and it was great, but we had a full kit and a great drummer at the Life festival earlier in the year and it was great. Like Helix said it would only really work with D'n'B, Breaks and Hip-Hop, it'd be fairly boring for the drummer to play along to anything else in my opinion.

plus youd really have to be doing it in a medium to large sized club at the very smallest

i know exactly what you mean. it would be a pain in the ass trying to fit a drum kit into some of the clubs. i play in a rock band most days a week so when i get jam time alone i just like to chill and play some hip hop, bit of dnb (basicly just to play with my roland gear) anything realy. i dont find it to boring its just a nice change from the crazyness of playin rock.

Francois K and Walter Gibbons did it for a while in New York back in the late seventies. Gibbons hated the idea though so he used to try put off FK changing the tempo etc.

Ive always been interested in combining live bass, drums and a dj/keys. The likes of squarepusher, hybrid or groove armada spring to mind. Would be very interested in hooking up with anyone in the Galway area whos interested.

Which are you looking for, drummer or dj?

I've drummed with dj's quite a few times over the years, started playing with techno & d'n'b, more recently moved onto house/disco/80's. Would play percussion tho, as opposed to a kit.

As long as both the drummer and dj are sync'ed, it doesnt really matter what the music is.
