Hey lads, not sure where to put this....

i've a whirlpool fridge, about 2 years old, it is not cooling enough....i bought a thermometer the other day to verify this....it only gets to about 10.5 degrees, and moving the dial between 1 and 7 makes no difference, i can hear the condenser kicking in, and the heat exchanger at the back warms when its running, but it never goes below 10.5ish.....

after a bit of googling, I've checked the obvious stuff, like seals or the light staying on....all ok there..

    any ideas..

New problem or long-standing? Poss low on gas - will need to be repaired and recharged.

Is the seal around the door in good condition and free from leaks?

think its always been like that, i only really noticed it during the hot summer, i'd stick 2 liters of milk in, and the next day, it'd have turned...seals are fine

i'm was thinkin maybe the thermostat could be dodgy, or maybe the dial, cause it always cools it to 10.5ish, but no lower, no matter what setting i put it at.

Is there sufficient scace at back of fridge for warm air to escape? Is your kitchen particulary warm? If the pump is kicking in and out it's possible that it does need a recharge...

They don't make them like they used to.

I had a 'fridge break down after only a year. Nobody repairs them anymore, it's basically new 'fridge time when they do break down.

    Avoid Whirlpool and Zanussi.

have a beko fridge which when working properly gets very cold even on lowest setting - ice in back of fridge occassionally, however it sometimes has spells of being too warm - defrosting the ice box fully seems to help with this but can be a bit hit and miss too.

Had a built-in Philips (pre Whirlpool taking over their white goods business) fridge once that did this, and it was the temperature sensor inside the fridge that was at fault. Easily and cheaply repaired if you can find someone to do it.

My current fridge and freezer, department store own-brands bought in Germany over 20 years ago are still going strong.

No offence, but you'd hardly be expecting quality and reliability with that particular brand.
