Recommendations for a cordless drill?

Right so I'm fed up buying crap power tools, I have gone through two cordless drills in the last two years so I'm looking for recommendations for a branded cordless, preferably with 3 batteries. Hammer action not needed, my trusty Bosch looks after that.

There was a thread explaining the differences in the batteries used in the coreless gear, but I can't find again. I didn't need it at the time. But it also recommended some gear

    My price range is €100-€200

Has anyone bought anything laterly - any thoughts on the subject? All contributions recommended. Please no Aldi or Lidl crap.

    Many Thanks
    Martin

I had an 18v ryobi that I bought at argos around 140 euro
I found it a very good tough drill until someone stole it:mad:
I am now trying to save up for an 18v Dwalt which I think is probably the best
cordless drill on the market but costs around 400 euro

I'd second the Ryobi, have been using one in work for the last two years and it gives great service, it was bought in the US by the boss, only problem is the same model isn't sold in Europe so when it needed a new trigger switch it took a while to order it in from the US. So be careful if you are buying on ebay!

Having said that there are some UK ebay shops supplying DeWalt gear at good discounts so it might be worth a look there.

Also B&Q have started doing a new range of Ryobi cordless gear which is worth having a look at.

I don't think you will get a good one eg Hitachi/Makita within your price range, Ryobi not prem league, 1st Div at best. Need to spend closer to € 300 and then you'll know you have a good one. Lit -ion batts are the rage at the moment.

I just bought three Hilti 15v drills for the guys and myself for €300 each. My first Hilti 12v drill was able to drive home more screws and bigger screws than my mates 15v Dewalt and required less charging.

Here's the battery info you should take into account.

Li-ion are the best at the moment
    Ni-Mh are next best and
    Ni-cd are the lowest power.

Then you need to take into account the Ah of the battery. Most B&Q or Woodies Special Offers will only have 1 or 1.2Ah battery and you'll have to recharge them every 50 screws or so. A 2Ah or better still 3Ah battery will do up to 300 screws before recharging so you might not need three batteries after all.

If you don't need Hammer Action you should be able to pick up a good Makita or Hitachi for under €300. Maybe only 12V available at this price. Try McQuillans. Hilti screwguns are excellent but very expensive unless you come across a deal.

Cheers Guy. Thanks squire1 thats the info I was particularly looking for on the different batteries types and Ah values.

I bought my 18V Dewalt on Ebay, had to buy the charger in the UK though. I think the charger was 40.

    12V DEWALT DC9071 DRILL BATTERY * 2
    DEWALT DC9096 18V XRP EXTENDED BATTERY * 2
DEWALT DW919 18V FLEXIBLE WORK LIGHT
12V DEWALT DeWALT CORDLESS XRP DC980 1/2" DRILL
18V DEWALT CORDLESS XRP DC988 HAMMER DRILL

All delivered to Mayo for 366.512 EUR
Now I think it was 90 euro for customs.

But all in all I still saved a lot of money on them, that was over 11 months ago I got them,

    Hi MartinCorcoran

I am the same as you, got fed up with crab cordless drills so bought myself a festool for about €400. Festool is a German brand and my father have been using the Festool range for the past 10 years. In my opinion the German makes are amongst the top 5 brands.

BTW - I have 2 new 18V dewalt batteries, never used, they sent me 2 18v batteries instead of 2 chargers when i ordered them off Ebay, so instead of sending them back i kept them, thinking I needed 4 batteries....but I soon discovered I did not!!
So if anyone interested let me know
