Has Game Stop Cancelled On Nintendo?

In other forums it was stated by a Play Station fanatic that Game Stop had stopped it's pre-orders of the Nintendo Wii due to bad pre-order sales. Not believing this I went to check it out for myself.
Unfortunatly I was informed they had cancelled pre-orders. I couldn't believe it but then I was informed that they didn't want to happen what happened in Smyths with the PS3.
Game Stop do not know their final number of units of the Nintedo Wii. Smyths over booked on the PS3 for Christmas before the delay and tried to re-fund people with their deposit. Game Stop fearing the same have just put a hold on what they have. I hope to have an offical statement from Game Stop up here by Wednesday afternoon.
If you have pre-ordered already your deposit and unit are safe

It sounds like caution, in that they might not have enough Wii consoles to meet the demand.

I wouldn't think its because of bad pre-order sales, unless by bad, you mean - too many.

lucky i did mine through GAME

I have checked verious retailers and what I have seen the demand has taken a lot of them by surprise I will inform yous as soon as I get a response. Promise!:D

Just spoke to Gamestop Henry St.

I was told they're not taking any more preorders cos they can't guarantee them.

This would suggest to me that they weren't expecting such a demand.

    Which is good, I guess.

Unless you don't have one preordered.

In which case it's probably bad.

    'wan ninty!
didn't another poster mention that xtra vision are only receiving 3 consoles per store on average?
could just be that xtra vision have ordered feck all, or it could be that Ireland will be getting feck all...
I've got mine preordered anyway, so screw you guys

Wait, there's a demand for them?

    Balls, I better go get a pre-order then. O_O

Feck, since when is there a demand for them?!? Thought Nintendo came a distant 3rd in mainstream gaming (excluding handhelds obviously).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,479 ✭✭✭Stalfos

Well, i guess this means i'll be standing outside Symths on Dec 7th with a flask and a blanket :D
I would take this as both a positive and negative really. If there is not enough wii's coming into this country, a desposit may not secure you the first batch of wii. Also more ppl buying the wii meaning, it wont die out as quickly as the gamecube, where you would have to go to 10 different shops to get the game your looking for.

launches mean very little, don't forget the gamecube had the best console launch ever when it came out
    http://www.planetgamecube.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=6773

still i'm very happy to see that demand is high, i think it's deserved

Gamestop has stopped taking pre-orders as there is too much demand.

    Hi Colm

    How are you?

It was with great interest that I read your query regarding the Nintendo Wii.

Whilst you aren't associated with GameStop, and we can't make an official
statement, you are a customer with a query - hopefully the information below
    will be useful!

Far from there being a lack of interest in the console, demand has been
overwhelming. Due to the fact that the available units have been far outstripped
by the demand, we have stopped taking deposits to ensure customers aren't
    disappointed.

'The Legend of Zelda - Twilight Princess' will also be one of the first releases
for the Wii, which would seem to indicate the console is highly anticipated!

A Big Thank you to Game Stop For The Reply Much Apreciated and I hope this FINNALY makes things clear for those who have a deposit down

The launch of the 360 was a real disaster last year, the stock shortages left a lot of Gamestop customers fuming as MS didn't fulfill their promises to provide stocks to cover demand, as a resultthis year Gamestop aren't taking any chances and are holding back on the preorders, that way no one gets pissed off.
Also means that instead of every console being presold with none on the shelves they can have actuall Wii consoles on the shelves on launch day, which can't be a bad thing, now can it? I reckon if some stores are to open at Midnight then that would be a great time to ramble over to your nearest store and pick one up.
Anyway its certainly not due to any lack of enthusiasm on the part of the customers, the buzz amongst gamers for the Wii is quite high, although most kids still hanker after the PS3, ho hum.

Gamestop have stopped because they just went and started taking prebooks with no idea of stock.

Xtravision were told 2 shipments of 300 units (for the whole of Ireland!!) = 600 units for xmas.

So we knew how many we could take on..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,404 ✭✭✭qwertplaywert

and will they be divided ecalie among all the stores?how many are there?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,679 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

No one knows yet, the difference between numbers ordered and number shipped won;t be known until launch week, thats the whole problem. Although ease of manufacture should mean that there are plenty around compared to the 360 launcg fiasco.

Anyone tried pre-ordering one in Gamestop in Kilkenny? Really should get around to ordering one...but knowing my luck I'm waaaaay too late. Bah.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,386 ✭✭✭Attol

Every Gamestop has stopped taking pre orders.

Same with Game afaik, but according to gamespot Nintendo have produced more wii's than projected, so hopefully Ireland will get a decent share. Shouldn't be too hard to get a wii on launch day if you're quick enough.

Does anyone know if the shops open at midnight on launch day?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 163 ✭✭Darnell13

I haven't heard about any shops opening at midnight, but i'm keeping an eye out for news.

Fingers crossed for Gamestop, Henry St.

Hey guys, when it the Irish launch date? I will be in NYC from Nov 23rd to 27th and was thinking about getting a US Wii. Am I shooting myself in the foot as it may not work here in the emerald isle. Does NTSC and PAL still figure in the next gen consoles?

Any info you guys have would be good. I may not even be able to get my hands on one in the states.....

    M

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,482 ✭✭✭RE*AC*TOR

it will work in ireland - as long as you have a relatively modern tv and a power converter.

however, you will have to get your games from the states.

The Indo had an article on this very topic yesterday.
"Because the rival Playstation 3 console has been delayed until early next year in Ireland, the new handheld from Nintendo has quickly become the must-have gadget this Christmas."

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,369 ✭✭✭madmoe

Ah feck, that is a pain in the ass :-(

Any recommendations as to what I should do?

If I were you, i'd just sit tight until it comes out over here. I think the hassle of getting games etc wouldn't be worth it. It less than a month til it's out anyway. Not all that long now...

Although it would be sweet to get one first!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 121 ✭✭Pablo-El-Vagabu

Considering Game and Gamestop ireland get their stuff from the UK, I wonder if the 300 unit mentioned does not include them? Maybe its 300 devided among the rest and game and gamestop would allocate their unit internally??

I have a pre-order in game in liffey valley. I'd better bloody get the thing now.....Ive got days booked off for it.

    Pab

I think I'll wait it out, have no pre-order in anywhere so I guess it will be new year until I got one.....

Does the article actually say handheld? It's good to see that their journalistic ability hasn't left them since I last lived in Ireland  muppets

I was just about to say I was surprised no-one else had picked up on that!!!

Journalists should only cover stories if they know what the hell they are talking about!!!
