Can someone recommend a good digital camera, the ones with the big zoom lens on them which are 10 x optical zoom or thereabouts.

what are the most important things to look for when buying a camera???

i have around 500 to spend and until christmas to spend it..... any ideas??

Are you talking about getting a digital slr? They're the ones that can have big ass lenses on them. If you don't know about slr then you can get one and spend lots of time learning how to use it or you can get a more compact one but it wouldn't have a big ass fancy lens on the front.

Generally for dlsr a Nikon or Canon of any sort will cover most needs. You could probably pick up one of the simpler ones for 500ish.

Don't go for hyperzoom, get yourself something like Canon A610 or A620, and a 2x extender if you really like long zooms - thing is you'd get bored with them very fast because well... they are hyperzoom digisoap.

Small cameras hard to hold on long focal ranges as a result handshake adds that nice blur on the image (which you prolly don't want), plus the relative apperture isn't very high on long zooms.

The Nikon d 50 , is a good starter dslr , you will probably have to pay 650 euros -- i have one , and i find it good ! better off spending the extra 150 , and getting something you can build on , than just sticking to your limit.

Get a Nikon D50. super camera, you can get them on ebay with a regular and big assed zoom lens (both nikor) for 550 Euro...

Cameta cameras of new york sell them, its a reputable company.. dont know if they ship to Ireland...worth a try, send them an email..

With the current exchange rate you will get a great deal...

For a starter camera try the Fuji S5600. 5M pixel, 10 X optical zoom. You should be able to get it for about €300 with case, charger and 512 card. Quality starter camera.

I'm looking at getting a new camera at the moment too. Thinking about the Fuji S6500fd seems to be getting good reviews, costs €500 in the shops and from about €380 on the net.

went for the fuji s5600 for 269.99 in pcworld. seems like a good starter for that price. didnt come with a case though so that was 29.99 and then picked up and extra 256mb xd card for 39.99. so 339.97 altogether. probably could have got it cheaper off the net maybe, but pc world is five minutes from where i work so.....
