Can anyone tell me the best way to get from either Carlow, or Newbridge (Co Kildare) to Grange Castle, via public transport, pretty earlyish? I have an interview there tomorrow (short notice i know), and i cant seem to find any decent routes on either the irish rail or the bus eireann site.

Grange Castle is at the end of the 51B and 51C bus routes.

There are a few options to get there early.

By train, the early train from Carlow is at 06.30, arriving at Heuston at 07.45

From Heuston you would have to turn Right and walk up Stevens Lane (steep hill along the Luas line), the 51B/C run along James' Street.

Alternatively you could get off the train at Hazelhatch, transfer to the next stopping train and get off at Clondalkin. You can pick up the 51B/C somewhere there. I am not sure of the routes they take through Clondalkin so unless you can get accurate directions I wouldn't try it.

By bus, the earliest bus from Carlow is at 06.55. Get off the bus as close to Monastery Road (by the footbridge to the Luas station just before the Red Cow roundabout) as the 51B/C travels along the Naas Rd from the city and turns off onto Monastery Rd.

By rights it should only stop at Newlands Cross but the drivers will often allow you to get off elsewhere.

If you have to get off at Newlands then either walk to Monastery Rd or possibly walk towards Clondalkin, again I wouldn't advise that unless you can find out what routes the buses take through the area.

The bus from Carlow should get there around 08.15 or so depending on traffic.
