Slow cable broadband over wireless

    Hi all,

My problem is I'm losing a third of my broadband over wireless access point.

9 meg cable broadband --> cable modem --> SMC Barricade router

1 drone PC wired to the SMC (controlled by Real VNC)
1 D link wireless access point, to which I connect the laptop

Drone PC gets full broadband, but laptop gets approx 1 - 3 megs only. Even with PC switched off...

Is this type of reduction to be expected? Even though signal strength is 100%, and both in the same room.

I have wpa2 enabled, but I tried it without encryption and it was the same.

    Any suggestions appreciated

    Thanks

I have a similar problem. I have 6mb NTL cable which is fine (about 5.1mb speed) if I connect direct to the modem (or through the LAN port on the wireless modem). However, if I connect wirelessly, I'm getting 1.8-1.9 speed at best - in other words I'm losing a LOT of speed. I've tried changing the channel, but to no avail.

Just a note to say I seem to have solved this one thank G.

Downloaded a prog called DrTCP.exe, ran it and changed the TCP Receive Window value to 87026, which it turns out is the proper range for my 9meg connection.

Reboot and voila ! Full broadband speed at last, not too sure it has improved the network speed any, but thats another days work !

    Hope that helps

    M

I downloaded the DrTCP program, but I didn't like the interface (no backup), so I did a little searching and found TCP OPtimizer from http://www.speedguide.net/sg_tools.php. It has an automatic option to "optimize" your TCP settings.

Result! I managed to up my speed to 3898 kbps from 1899 kbps on Irish ISP test and 4450 kbps on http://www.speedtest.net/.
