I just got this cable to connect the laptop to the TV via a SCART connector.
It works however the picture is in B/W.

The S-video port on laptop has 7 holes however the cable with the SCART yoke is only plugging into.... 4 i think. Yer man at Maplins was saying that shouldn't be a problem
    What do u think?

Set output in GPU conrtol to PAL, its outputting in NTSC as default.

At a wild guess - your laptop is sending NTSC, your TV requires PAL. Look for settings on the laptop.

I went through several of these cables, all with the same problem until I found one that actually works. I got it on S-video.com.

In most cases, it is the physical wiring of the cable that gives the B/W picture, so changing settings will not always work - it depends on the cable.

It's either as other said (it's outputting NTSC and your TV only takes PAL), or your TV doesn't take s-video, so you either need to get something that converts the s-video to composite (or RGB if you have the money), the proper 7-pin cable for your laptop (that will have a proper composite output), or use component YPbPr if available.

    I agree with Tom,
I again went through a few cables trying to get this to work.
Even now it works with the S-Videos.com cable I bought, but with 3 other different cables I get B/White or it changes between b/W and bad quality colour every 2 secs.

I'd try the PAL change first, then get a better quality cable if it still doesn't work.
