    Hey all,

My computer has slowed to a snails pace after installing a 6800GS, before i installed this i had a Raedon x700 and before that a 6600GT which broke.

Basically to put it in scale when i play counterstrike source my fps are/were

    6600GT : FPS 100
    X700: FPS 80
    6800GS: FPS 12

Then i took the card out uninstalled all drivers again and put back in the X7oo and my FPS were STILL 12.

    Anyone able to help me?

    Thanks ppl for reading

By the way, for some reason it will only use 66,000 ram where before css would use 120,000, my computer still says there is 1GB installed but it is like the second 512mb stick is not being fully used, I dunno if this has anything to do with it

Assuming your PSU is good enough I would suggest run a combination of driver cleaning tools & chipset driver re-installs to possibly resolve the problem.

Download drivercleaner & install it but don't run it yet.

Uninstall your current graphics card drivers though add/remove in the control panel. After the reboot ignore the prompts to install a driver for the GPU and run drivercleaner and select the NVIDIA profile so it will remove any remnants of the driver. Now select the ATI profile and run through it again to remove any bits of that driver still lurking.

Once that is done re-install the 91.47 graphics driver, now re-install your chipset driver as well.

Finally update your build of Direct-X 9 to the most recent October release.

See how it goes after the above has been done.

Are Source based games the only ones that exhibit this reduction in performance ?

Have you tried removing Counterstrike from Steam & downloading it direct from the Steam servers again ?

No my whole computer has just slowed down,

Bit more nifo since this morning, now my computer wouldnt bet the win xp loading screen and i just get a black screen, but my computer is still on and sounds like it is still running,

i taught it might be a power issue so started disconnecting some devices,

dissconected my two cd-drives and it booted then, but still really slow.

So i assumed it was a power issue, i put in a spare 500w psu biut that didnt help either,

I checked my 2 sticks of 512ram by putting them in singley and they both work,

i'm lost to the reason why its so slow,

Why when i disconect my cd and dvd drive did it boot then but still really slow??

I take it you ran Memtest and it gave the all clear on both sticks.

Not sure what else could be the problem it doesn't sound like it's graphics card related any more, what are the temps like on the CPU is the fan running at it's normal speed ?

Have you tried replacing the cables for the hard drives, checked the SMART status of them.

I recently had trouble with a card that sounds a bit similar to what you have. It turned out I had to increase the AGP voltage in the Bios.

    Running Memtest at the moment,

Going to change aroung the cables for the hard drives in a min, havent tried that,

Just wondering could it be anything to do with tha AGP slot, could it be faulty?

I incresed the voltage earlier and it made no difference, incresed it from 1.3 to 1.6v

    cpu temp 42 degrees C

    cpu fan speed 2860rpm
