well finally got that new pc. assembled it all and installed operating system. everything was going fine until i started playing games and then:

I suspect it was gfx card related as it only happens in a game doing alot of graphics heavy activity, but i'm no expert so can't be sure.

anyone have an idea what the cause may be?
    already tried:
-different version of GFX card drivers
    -flashing mobo BIOS with update
    -disassembling/reassembling each part

still having the same problem tried everything i could think of.
any help would be very appreciated.

Try a different motherboard driver. It's related to the hard disk controller driver.

I've no idea what causes it but at work we see it very occasionally on all our Dell Xeon Workstation. Most of the time from a cold boot. Very rarely after that. Personally I suspect the intel chipset relating to the HD controller. But it may also be a XP IDE/SATA driver related. I did some searching on the web but never found a conclusive solution. Seems to a million and one possible causes.

It could be anything. Normally happens when there is a conflict among the hardware devices in your system. Maybe it’s a resource conflict and two or more devices are sharing the same IRQ. Try changing the order of your PCI cards by putting them in different slots and see if the problem goes away.

Uninstall the NVIDIA IDE drivers if possible through the control panel.

Note you cannot remove the NVIDIA IDE drivers if using a RAID array.

Alternate method go into the device manager find the properties of your SATA and PATA (IDE controllers) roll back the drivers for all of them to the standard dual channel PCI IDE controller.

That should hopefully stabilize the system the NVIDIA IDE drivers have some incompatibility's with certain hardware and & cause a variety of issues particularly with DVD drives.
