i was reading in the indo's digital ireland supplement today about irish broadband's plans for wimax next year. there's talk also of putting mobile wimax on pda-phones and such devices in the near future.

just wondering what people here think of the future of voip/data services over wimax. in your opinions is this likely to be a revolutionary development. do the mobile networks have much to fear? is it likely that such developments will shake up the mobile industry and drive down prices?

i'd be interested in hearing what ye think about this.

I don't know if they've much to fear. The techies will adopt it but normal users will still tootle along paying the big bills. I've a mate in the US that uses Skype on his Windows Mobile phone. His mobile carrier has a good internet plan so he saves money that way. We can't do that over here as they charge 1c or 2c per Kb.
